  1. last week i installed tein flex coilovers. the improvement on the road and circuit is better than expected, the mass transfer balance under aggressive braking is osom.

On the other hand, performing on bad pavement in my city is not funny, really hard on potholes.

Can anyone share with me the A and B setting of the tein flex coilovers for the best performance in town? If it doesn't improve comfort, I consider buying in Japan tuned by STI bilstein with STI pink spring and forget about coilovers :(

  2. The day has arrived! I installed some updates on my LGT. The wilwood front calipers (bought from @ BoozeRS05 -> Thanks!) And the JDM LGT STI muffler tuned by STI.

    I attach some photos

  3. Sorry I took so long to get back to you. I was in Alaska. Just took a couple of videos this morning.

Anyone else interested this is what a 3.0R with raptor headers and a custom exhaust, high flow cats, to JDM Legacy STi mufflers sounds like.

In my city this week they eliminated the covid lockdown. On Wednesday I will go to install the STI mufflers and wilwood front cailpers kit that I get from BoozeRS05.

I will send before and after photos (and video of sound)

Thanks for your video, the sound is very nice and i evaluate buy the raptor headers in the future. You perform repro after install headers-exhaust and STi mufflers?

  4. Don't want to hijack the thread, but I have an Iphone 12 with LIDAR, and own a 1997 LGT Wagon, 2005 LGT Wagon, and a 2011 Outback.

If you guys need anything, let me know. I can't make promises to how good I will do, but I would certainly try!

    it's perfect!!!

You can test scanner initially with specific elements, in example bumper and share files here.

  5. Seems that most scanner apps do one or a combination of .stl .obj or .ply.

The one boxkita posted will do:

gltf, glb, Dae, pts, pcd, xyz, and usdz.

Canvas will for a small fee export to:

Skp, dwg, Dae, plan, rvt, ifc, kit, and pdf.

    For the following programs:

Sketch up, chief architect, autodesk revit, 2020 design, and autocad

Some mix and match with canvas, idk if some programs use proprietary files within some of those options.

I'm not finding anything that'll do step, iges, or the solid works file types I saw listed in thread.

Awfulwaffle or ajerezcl can you do anything with any of those file types?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    what is the small fee?

Better to pay versus discover months after we need one of those other formats files hahaha. ;)

  6. I reactivated thread jajaja :D

About OpenFoam, some friends who use it tell me that it has improved in recent years, that it is more user friendly than before.

I'm waiting for the nonameduda scan :spin:

  7. So if I understand correctly, the out-of-production environment consists of two 10 core/20 thread nodes, with 64 GB of total memory? If so, I think we could absolutely work with that if we manage grid size carefully. It'll be a little on the slow side, but I'd think we could turn around a reasonably-resolved RANS run in a day or two on that setup. Ideally, we'd use ANSYS Fluent, is that available? If not, I'm sure we can adapt to whatever is available based on the talent pool in this thread/on the forum.

Btw, your English is just fine from my perspective :)

    Yes you are correct.

On the other hand, there is no problem that the simulation is running for two full weeks, the utilization of these equipment is less than 20%!! :D

They are equipment deprecated from the cluster that are now used by postgrade students.

About Ansys, I do not have a license since we use our own codes developed in fortran with Intel MPI.

Is there an Ansys license for educational use? (like Autodesk)

    Another alternative is OpenFOAM...

  8. Fantastic. How would we handle credentials/access? Worst case, I can handle grid generation and case setup on my end and pass files over ftp or similar.

What software and resources do you need?

The computers that I have out of production are in a linux environment (ubuntu server with xfce for students use), and servers have dual xeon 10c/20t (20c/40t in total) and 32gb Ram memory. If you need more resources i need booking time in HPC Cluster.

The access to machine is over Anydesk or TeamViewer. If you need windows i can set up a Virtual Machine with windows. For the transfer of files generally with the students we synchronize a folder from dropbox, google drive or another. It is much more agile than using FTP or SFTP.

pd: sorry for my english, i am not native speaker :(

  9. looks like they improved their cloud products. When I first looked into it, I had access to Azure dev units (unlimited cores/ram). Building the images was a pain and required knowledge I didn't have.

From experience with Azure, you can burn money pretty fast depending on the configuration.

we had a "let's test this" list that got whittled down. Then exploded as we learned more. Getting a 3d model stalled at "need a scanner".

Not sure how I can help other than find resources and funds (maybe). Pretty much everything Awful wrote above didn't even make a sound as it flew past me. :)

Get to this topic from another.

I manage an HPC cluster at the university where I am a researcher. I can share computational resources (CPU or GPU), actually is available some servers that we have outside of the production environment.

  10. aero thread is here: https://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/4th-gen-aero-282756.html?t=282756

more science than you handle unless aero is your job.

The miata, indeed, does have a parachute for a rear bumper skin. The LGT does not. end of story. If you don't believe, check out the cfd runs awfulwaffle did proving that. Also crawl under the rear of your car and look up. The bumper skin is pretty tightly sealed to the spare tire bump. It's almost like it was designed to be more aero.

Think what you like, but real world testing has shown both versions to be very aero. The wagon tail needs work, but finding a streetable solution has been elusive.

Finding ppl with adequate skills, software licenses, and compute time has been tough. If you can help out, please do. Madrig offered to build a wagon mid wing if we could find a design that works.

wooooow perfect! My MSc is in CFD and combustion science, and have multiple scientific articles in the field. I'll have to read that topic, they've probably done a lot so far... you are great!

  11. I have a Legacy wagon (non-turbo) and a Miata and one popular mod for the Miata is to cut the rear bumper upward to the support since the lower part of the bumper acts like a parachute. One person used fluid dynamics analysis to show this saved seven pounds of drag at 75 mph or the loss of 1.4 horsepower. The Legacy bumper is obviously wider so more power would be lost.

What some people are doing is adding a diffuser at the back with some underbody streamlining. This could be a good project for someone. We already have a thread on streamlining so that would be a natural discussion to conduct there.

    This is an example:

    bumpercutout.jpg

Normally the bumper is one smooth line from side to side at the level of the sides. Some people offer diffusers of dubious value to augment the venturi effect under the body.

The venturi effect only applies to confined laminar flow and others assumptions.

The aerodynamics of the car is more complex (turbulent and open flow), however, I understand the point of the diffusers of questionable value jajajaja.

If anyone have a LGT 3D cad file i can release a CFD simulation for calculate the drag force :spin:.

  12. Nice! I have a pair of these on my 3.0R Outback with a JDM bumper. I love the look. Sounds a little deeper, especially for a second when you let off the throttle.

I took them to a welder and extended the tips 2 inches because they didn’t look great with the Outback bumper.

Perfect!!! my car is an LGT 3.0R :),

can you share a video with sound? all videos on youtube are recorded in LGT 2.5GT

  13. Do they sound any different from stock mufflers? Any flow difference that we know?

I only heard videos of this muffler.

In reviews, some people comment that their performance is similar to the stock silencer of the Impreza STI 16'. Deep sound at low rpm (without much db) and very low drone sound at high rpm. This is very important to me (Legacy is my daily car).

    you can watch this video:

This muffler is very expensive. not a good deal!! (~2000 USD https://www.ebay.com/itm/192308222553). I was lucky enough to buy used for 100 USD!

  14. Mmmk so, considering Some SSR xt01 wheels for my lgt, in 18x8.5 +48 offset. What would be ideal tire to use without having to roll the fender (if necessary I will) but I'm looking to have a flush to fender fitment. I do daily it. 235/40 sounds about right?

I have on my lgt wheels in 18x7.5 45 offset. It's really tight at about 225/45 (bridgestone potenza RE050A). Honestly due to the prominent edge of the interior it does not touch by millimeters.

  15. I am from Chile and here in the coastal areas there are temperatures >86°F and over 60-70% RH. No has reported this problem in the Subaru owners communities. In Chile the legacy 4G that arrived are mainly for the European market (2.0R / 3.0R / 2.5i), the problem may be only for vehicles from the American market, I am sorry :( .
