legandrex
Had car in to deal with sound from front of engine that does not sound internal. It's like a bad bearing sound that ticks on a repetitive cycle based on rpm's. Only happened with cold engine and has been doing it for a year. It's been getting louder so I was worried something might fail. Fix was: Upper cam belt guide rubbing right side B241-201--ACF-29-Adjusted upper right cam guide. Looks like 1.90 units of labor were required to fix. Seems to be fixed now. I thought it would have been timing belt tensioner per TSB, but not the case. Nachowang
I think I may have this problem too. I can hear something in the engine bay "ticking" when the engine is cold and after 5 min. or so it goes away. Should I be concerned?
mccorry
That sounds more like injectors or valve tappets (lifters).....
Nachowang
That sounds more like injectors or valve tappets (lifters)..... Should that be a yellow flag? I'm wondering if this considered "normal" operation in cold days. It doesnt happen in warmer days.
melayout
Ticking in cold weather is normal as long as it doesn't increase over time. The intensity of the ticking depends on how cold it is outside and what kind of oil you use. Some synthetics can reduce or eliminate the ticking and others may not, you gotta experiment with different oils. I keed I keeed
