How much quicker is a manual vs auto

I want to trade in my o4 wrx auto for a 05 LGT.I hate my auto in the wrx because of the turbo lag and did some test diving in an 05 LGT auto and manual. The turbo lag

in the 05 LGT auto was not that bad compared to my wrx

My question is just how much quicker 0 to 60 is the LGT manual vs auto.

Thanks

About 1 to 1.5 seconds.

LGT auto best 0-60 time you can expect is about 6.5 seconds.

But more often probably 6.7 seconds.

LGT manual well "officially" (car mag times) there's been only 2

tests I've seen, but with the SAME test mule car.

Both got around 5.6-5.7 seconds and 14.2-14.3 in the

1/4 mile. But owners are getting around 14.0-14.2 (one or two people have broke into the 13.9's with a stock LGT)

and probably 5.4 to 5.5 to 60 mph.

If straight line acceleration and reducing turbo lag is a high priority to you, you better

get the manual!

An auto can beat any average manual driver...:D

LOL, that might be true of say the Camaro SS or Corvette or any other

large V8 powered car where the autos run VERY close to the manuals times.

BUT, it would only take a medium launch from a LGT manual to

run to 60 in mid to upper 6's.

I got used by a chick in a manual (stock, i think) WRX light to light. Although on our first go I rolled her a bit from the light, got a car length on her and she couldn't close the gap. I was in sport shift mode, using the thumbys. The second run she was revving the engine, I mistakenly looked over right before the light changed, she chirped the tires and was gone. I just had to laugh at myself. Wasn't even worth chasing at that point...

30-40 mph roll?

Need more of a speed gap than that to really know.

But it will depend on gearing and where you start.

If both are in the meat of the power bands, there is no time

at no speed where the auto will be faster than the manual.

But if the manual is say in 3rd gear at 30 mph and not

in second, the auto will jump out in front. But again,

in a true "race" anybody in a manual is going to be in the

correct gear for maximum acceleration.

1-1.5 seconds sounds pretty accurate, though I dunno.

When I had my WRX, at the dragstrip there was a guy that consistently ran 16.1-16.2 in his auto WRX. My stock 5MT WRX pulled anywhere from 14.7 to 15.3. Still, there is more to life than drag racing. I'm assuming the powerband will be similar in the auto, however, your launches won't be the same.

Numbers aside, the auto felt weaker to me. Maybe weaker is the wrong word. It felt a lot more disconnected. The throttle by wire and turbo already gives a slight sense of being disconnected, and the auto adds a big layer on top of that. Drove both the automatic and manual back-to-back, and the auto was a little disappointing on the acceleration front, whereas the manual put a big smile on my face.

Yes, the cars were new so the auto should improve over time, but I wasn't interested in getting it anyway. I think the sales guy wanted to see how I drove first, hehe.
