Whatnow
I was driving down the road, turned on the defroster and and overwhelming coolant fumes filled the car. The car didn't get hot, I can't find any leaks and I've owned the car for a month and a half and never had this problem with the defroster at all. I've never had to mess with hvac stuff stuff so I'm looking for suggestions. It's an 07 legacy 2.5 non-turbo..

That Guy 2-1
I suspect heater core, if it is you may even notice an oily film on your windshield
cschneider
I second the heater core. I've had heater cores go and never did see any leakage until I started pulling carpet.
Xplosivo1
I 3rd the heater core, look/feel around on the carpet up under the glove box and under the pedals, You will probably find your leak. Once you get your heater core replaced, shampoo the carpets with a 75/25 mix of vinegar and water.
Whatnow
Thanks for the input. I did check the carpet when it first happened and it felt ok but it might have been too soon.
Whatnow
Just checked again.. no wet carpet but the fumes aren't aren't as strong as they were initially. Coolant levels're good.. Guess I'll wait and see what happens
