SpecB vs LGT rear axle length

I'm still planning out my 6MT swap(I already have the transmission, etc from an 07 STi) and was wondering about the rear axles: are the Spec B rear axles the same length as the LGTs but have a different inner CV to fit an R180 differential? As in, would simply swapping over the inner CV joints work?

 

Reason I ask is because I have the axles from the STi too; and just swapping the ends would be way cheaper than looking for Spec B axles.

Spec B rear axles are a hybrid. R180 inner, R160 outer. I don't think you can just swap the inner CV joints without using a custom CV race. A guy did it, here's the thread on NASIOC:

Thanks. So does the Spec B axle already have the "hybrid" CV race or is the outer end just turned down smaller to accept a "R160"/5x100 end?

That seemed very easy, and likely not too expensive, providing that the cups and the rest of the axle, including splines, are all good condition. And, that the race can be easily sourced.

Well, just found out he sells that race for $175 shipped(they're custom); while a pair of reman Spec B axles run for $236 from RockAuto. Hmmm

$175 seems steep... but I guess if you already have all the other parts and they're in good shape it could be worth it. Good luck!
