tytek
So what ultimately lead you to choose the C5 over the C6? Here are the major factors that solidified my decision to go with a C5 Z06, in no particular order: - price - uniqueness - handling - looks (exterior) - raw driving experience - track worthiness - cheap bolt-ons - insurance cost Can't wait to have it my garage! BAC5.2
All good reasons, for sure. mass-hole
Maybe wait a little bit for the C7 to hit the lots. People on the GM forums think all the Corvette guys will be rushing to pick them up and you should see price drops on the C5's and C6's
05GT Guru
People always say that with a new model coming out. I have never noticed major drops, I mean prices do drop... a little... from private sale guys.....sometimes.
rodan
Well, the OP just bought a C5Z, so it's moot... I do think C6 prices will drop a bit when the C7 is readily available. It won't be a huge drop, though. I'm kind of hoping to upgrade to a Z06 in a couple years when the C7 version comes out, and C6 Z06 prices have come down a little more... 05GT Guru
I am hoping and waiting as well. You can now get earlier c6 z06s sub 40k in some cases. After a few more years of saving and price dropping hopefully the numbers will work out.
tytek
Here is a teaser... and I paid a REALLY good price for it, and it is a rust free Florida car. Even if the average price drops, I won't lose money (I am cheap). http://i42.tinypic.com/6szzhh.jpg

tytek
Picked up and parked in my garage. First mod is black wheels to complement other black parts on the car already. The exhaust note and loudness is out of this world. Love the sound, not sure about the volume. It has a full header and catless x-pipe, as well as un-muffled catback. I can break the tires loose at 80mph in third gear at WOT. Handling runs circles around my Koni/RCE/swaybar 5th gen LGT. I love the car. The linear power delivery is intoxicating. Hurst shifter is ultra short and the most precise manual I have ever used - throws are hard though (can adjust that and overtravel too). http://i41.tinypic.com/33cut13.jpg

That thing must have BMW suspension parts or something. In all seriousness, it looks great. Way to make me jealous! Now get the heat gun and floss out, and remove that side molding! It is funny how little people know of the prowess of a C5Z on the track. It may have leaf springs in the back, but it is far from a pony car. I debated de-spearing the car. Just can't get the motivation to do it. Wanna come help?

I'm in KY, so not close at all. Although it would be a lot more fun to have help. My patience is tested by debadging of any kind. And I am a little worried about evidence of the spears in the paint, since the car is 11yrs old.

Yes, the Z06 has leaf springs up front as well, but I was making a reference to the rear suspension of a pony car. The C5 with Z51 (526lbs/in) has the same front springs as the Z06, but the rears are unique (stiffer, 714lbs/in).
SCHM1AN
I'm glad you got the C5Z instead of the C6. Otherwise I'd have to make some sort of comment regarding the size of your member and how you're having a midlife crisis

Otherwise I'd have to make some sort of comment regarding the size of your member and how you're having a midlife crisis Yeah, the C5Z is definitely a driver's car. Raw and relentless, to the point of being scary at top end. I really like it. Maybe even more than my LGT. It sounds so good, especially in a tunnel. I think that both cars look great in their current iterations. I'll try to do a photoshoot sometime soon.
tytek
This is what my Z06 sounds like... video is not of my car, but we have the same mods. [ame= ] [/ame] I plan to record my car's sound using professional equipment from my father's music studio, in hopes of acurately sharing this awesome race car-like sounds. Otherwise I'd have to make some sort of comment regarding the size of your member and how you're having a midlife crisis You won't believe how many times I have heard both sentiments since I bought the car. Not much merit to either one... I just wanted a capable, track ready car to have fun with. My LGT is a daily driver; I feel that I have gotten it to its top performing shape, without compromising reliability too much.
