theflystyle
I have started running into the following regarding the oil filter I have been using for ages on the 3.0R. The filter was a Purolator PureOne PL14459. I went to the store to pick up a half dozen or so and to my surprise they were all out. I then looked in the book and to my surprise I noticed that the number listed for the PureOne was no longer the PL14459 but instead the PL14612. I then took a look at the Purolator website and looked up the 3.0R, and it states that the PL14459 is still the required filter and that the PL14612 is for the 2.5i. and if you havent lost interest.... I then looked at amazon and advance auto's website for the PL14459 but on each site they stated that this model does not fit my 3.0R. Both of those sites show the PL14612. apexi
Are you worried that you may have been running the wrong filter? When I plug that filter part number (pl14459) into the purolator web site, it says that filter fits your car. http://www.purolatorautofilters.net/resources/Pages/WhereUsedGuideResults.aspx?partnr=PL14459&page=23 Also, when I use the application guide at the purolator web site, it says that is the correct filter for your engine, and that the 14612 is only for the 4 cylinder legacy engines http://www.purolatorautofilters.net/resources/pages/ApplicationGuideResults.aspx?mid=100&modid=2266&yid=37&make=SUBARU&model=Legacy&year=2008 When I go to the advance auto parts website and search your car, it does in fact say the 14612 oil filter. I wouldn't worry about that though, I would trust what the purolator web site says, which is that the 14459 is the correct filter.
theflystyle
I really was just stating how bizarre this was as it seemed to have changed overnight and across multiple vendors.
orndog
You have no idea how often this happens. I used to manage a maintenance shop and really Subaru filters did this quite often back then.
theflystyle
looking at the size difference of the two, it just seems way too small. The difference in diameter is about half an inch, but when your talking about filters which are already pretty tiny its a little unsettling.
