mmarton
The wire accidentally pulled out of the clip. I noticed under the outer insulation that there's a thin layer of woven wire surrounding a core wire. I'd like to splice a wire to lengthen it. Is there another wire inside the core? Do I just remove some of the outer insulation? Thanks for your help.
mmarton
Figured out a solution. Rather than do a splice, I bought a new antenna harness with a Motorola female end and a Motorola-type solderless jack that I'll attached to the cable coming out of the radio. Mr.EMan
Just had a similar problem. I bought a used 2007 radio, and they just snipped the antenna cable. What I ended up doing was soldering the part with the connector from my 2005 radio to the 2007 radio. I cut to the conductor and soldered them together. I wrapped this in electrical tape. Then I tried pushing the braided ground wire back together, but this wasn't a connection. I had some aluminum tape that I then used for the braided wire. This gave it the conductivity that it needed. I used electrical tape over everything instead of heat shrink tubing to give in some strength.
