Postal legacy tank size different?

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering if anyone knows if the 1995 Postal Legacy's came with smaller fuel tanks?

I came up with this idea upon filling up from empty, my tank filled up at about 10 gallons only.

When i started the car, the needle went all the way to full as well.

the tanks are 15.9 in the AWD legos in the 90s. (imprezas are smaller and i do not know about FWD.) but the gas gauge sending units are what makes you think it is empty when 10 gals are gone. they get old and show empty too early. lots better than showing 1/2 when really empty.

keep track of how far you drive on each fill up and divide by the gals it takes to fill. then multiply that by 15 gals. that is your cruising range with about a gallon to spare. reset your trip odometer every time you fill up. for most cars, not all, the low fuel light will come on somewhere around 14 gals gone.

do a search, lots of posts on this.

Their the same, you have to remember that when your right on "E" you still have a little over 3 gallons. Check your owners manual. It states that when the low fuel light turns on there's 3.2 gallons left. My low fuel light comes on right on E. Nice hey. LOL.

wow, 3.2 gal at the low fuel light is a lot. it makes sense tho, since when my light comes on it will take about 12 gal to fill it. weird thing is, when i first got the car i put a 2 gal gas can in the back and let it go until it died. it sputtered out at the subaru superstore while picking up parts, i dumped a gallon in the tank and went to the gas station. i was expecting to put 15 or so in, but it only took 13.5. so, i have an effective 14.5 gallon tank for all intents and purposes. i remember reading that some guy measured the pick upon his OEM and replacement fuel pumps and found the replacement was an inch shorter or something like that, which could be the cause of mine missing a gallon or so of fuel at the bottom end. once it sucks air there wouldnt be much fuel pressure, causing it to sputter out. my fuel gauge reads flat out E pretty early, and stays there for about 100 miles until the low fuel light comes on. i can usually get about 350 to 370 miles on that sucker before i fill it tho, not too bad for 12 gallons.

Oh God I don't even want to get started on my fuel gauge. The damn thing is so unreliable its ridiculous. When I get gas, the pump shuts off at 3/4 full according to the gauge, however if I fill really slow I can put in a few more gallons until it is truly full. While driving it is pretty good above 3/4 but under that it jumps around like crazy. Only other car I had this issue in was my 94 Escort but not nearly as bad as this. It jumps literally the entire range from E to 3/4. I've never driven it until the low fuel light turns on or running out because I don't trust it and usually have somewhere important to go when I do actually drive my Leggy. Couple this with the EFFING whirring noise the fuel pump makes when starting up I think I need to replace the pump. Anybody else have these issues?
