Payback45
Could use some help Its been getting colder up here in VA and when I start my 09 up first it squeals then when I back out of my parking spot and turn the wheel it squeals even more gets harder to turn the wheel and the headlights dim. All this goes away once I but it into drive and take off. I have sprayed the belts with belt conditioner and it hasn't helped. The belts are a few months old so I don't think they are going just yet. Any ideas? I have also looked at the power steering fluid and all is good. Thanks

CousinLarry
Mine was doing the same thing.. Find the PS belt tensioner and tighten the belts just a hair.. Hasn't squealed since.
doobaruGT
I thought the same thing Larry, but I wonder why the lights would dim unless the engine was trying to pull more weight than normal... Maybe try this and see what happens, Pay, it can't hurt too much Updated parts list since original part-out here. Original Full part-out of my LGT HERE! Maybe try this and see what happens, Pay, it can't hurt too much The PS belt is the same belt that drives your alternator. So if it is a hair loose, you will have less alternator output as well as less boost from the PS pump. -Mike Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/145749898/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://www.whiteline.com.au/images/logos/perf1.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. Payback45
So tighten up the belts? See if that's it?
doobaruGT
So tighten up the belts? See if that's it? yyyep, like mentioned, if there's not enough tension, not only do you lose PS, but also alternator power...sounds like the fix for your issue Updated parts list since original part-out here. Payback45
Stupid question...how much should I tighten it? I get it if the belts are really loose but if they are already tight...if I tighten them too much what can happen?
AZP Installs
There is a certain deflection you should have when it is tightened properly. I believe it is about 1/4" or there abouts. -Mike Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/145749898/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://www.whiteline.com.au/images/logos/perf1.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts.
