Calesti's little project thread.

So after speaking with a number of subaru specialists and my mechanic, for an engine with 268,000k's on it, doing all the work that it needs is overpriced and excessive, and finding a fresher secondhand motor is more worthwhile. I still run the chance that the HGs will need doing in the future on it also, unless they've been done, however the overall cost is fairly minimal.

So now I'm working on sourcing a lower mileage ej22e and possibly an auto box, in case mine is a bit too thrashed out to bother with. This could be the hard part. Once I find one, putting it in is easy, getting my radiator top fixed or replaced could be interesting, But wreckers should be able to help there. After draining some of the stupidly overfilled oil the car runs much better though, surprise surprise.

So once I find a new engine I have a starting point to work from for the rest of the work.

As it stands so far, $2200 for the car and around $1400 to put the new engine in, then hopefully it will be good to go and I can start working on it. while I'm swapping the engine I'll be replacing the separator plate and a few other bits too, so probably a total of about $2000 (AUD) all up, which I guess isn't too bad in the end considering the price of most of these cars down here. I'm still about a grand under the average sale price of them locally. I'll try to remember to get some pics of things as I work on it a bit more.
