Inspector Gadget
I also posted this in the suspension forum: With JDMChizad's help, I installed a new set of Cobb sway bars about this time a couple years ago. My 2005 LGT wagon is a daily driver. I don't beat on it and I've never even done so much as a track day. So imagine my surprise when I pulled out of the driveway and heard something dragging underneath the car. I was stunned when I looked under the left front corner and saw the end of my blue sway bar hanging from the end link. http://www.flickr.com/photos/22998272@N07/8213195698When Cobb was located in Salt Lake City, I would have taken the defective bar into their shop and likely walked out with a new replacement. However, since Cobb moved back to Texas I no longer have that option. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8204/8213195698_83ce36a6ef.jpg Misery does not love company: Similar thread #1 Similar thread #2 I'm sure there are other examples of Cobb bar failures, but you get the idea. Thankfully I wasn't hammering through some corner going mach 9. Any suggestions?
S402
The Cobb bars are tubular so they aren't the strongest bar. whiteline make great options for the legacy with a solid adjustable design, that would be my recommendation.
S402
you also can drive with no sway bars it just feels a little funny with lots of body role.
Hops
The Whiteline sways are cheaper, too. Hit up Fro... I'm pretty sure he's a dealer for them. Buy my cars!
doccrowley
My whiteline adjustables have put up with plenty. I'd be bugged, too, with the failure.
Killy83
What happened Cobb? You used to be cool. Good to know though.
Inspector Gadget
I'd be bugged, too, with the failure.Yeah, not at all happy about the failure. I could (almost) understand it if I was driving the car like I used to drive my old 510. On the plus-side, Cobb has offered me a modest credit ... just not enough to make a serious dent in a new down pipe.
snowflake
that does suck! did it happen to break where there may have been rust? I was reading a couple threads of the same thing happening on here and on NASIOC and 85% of the time it was due to rust, and the cobb sways not being a solid.. at least they gave you a little bit of a credit on it! Now that I am able to post photos, you tell me if rust was the problem. The wall thickness looks pretty good to me; maybe that's why Cobb is offering me a credit? http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8204/8213195698_83ce36a6ef.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8207/8213195248_4074a7b408.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8484/8212106927_2aabdc6255.jpg
snowflake
Yeah i dont think i would rule rust out of part of the problem but, it definitely was not the only cause im guessing there was some kind of stress crack that finally gave out. Probably a factory defect in my opinion Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk
