SubieChik
Cracked ring lands in 2 cylinders. I blew my engine 2 years ago and replaced it with a use one from an 08 WRX that was hit in the rear. When I got it the compression test checked out fine, but come to find out they must have taken it apart for some reason because there was a little rust on the cylinder walls that got worse over time. Sounds like your starter wasn't in the best shape lol. So that still might be your problem. I just brought up the compression test bc of my situation and it's cheap and easy to do for some added assurance you know?
SBT
Fix your starter (take it apart and clean relube the internals). Will be fine for at least 100K. Superlube FTW. - Pro amore Dei et patriam et populum -
urfsin
Update: I had my starter out while I was changing my clutch. I cleaned it up / lubed it the best I could, but when I put it back in I had the same problem. I ended up installing an remanufactured unit and it's working great so far. OEM starter FTL. compsurge
Your solenoid contacts were probably in need of replacing.
SBT
^ Meant to mention this. Thanks! In addition to cleaning/lubing, I always burnish the contacts as well, or replace as required. - Pro amore Dei et patriam et populum -
