Pachilla, I know this is an old thread but do you remember how the OEM EDM shocks felt like on the car? Was the car bouncy, predictable? I am just trying to find an alternative to my OEM USDM shock set up on my OBXT. I want to keep stock ride height as much as possible. I know there is the bilstein bts kit but it is pricey. I am just wondering if the OEM EDM may be an OK alternative (i.e. better than USDM, yet cheaper than the bilstein BTS kit).

The stock EDM shocks perform surprisingly well.

Only complain was slight wobbling at the back after hitting some bumps (self-leveling)

You can see how it works in the following video.

I was running stock suspension.

Yes there were two rather slow-running 911s in from of me

Wait what? 600 USD PER strut? This is ridiculous, especially if it is kyb that's making them. The bilstein bts kit would be cheaper than this then.. Thanks for the info man.

He is in Taiwan.... Car parts cost more outside the US markets.

Yeah I know he is Taiwan. I lived in Europe (Norway and France) for the past four years with my usdm obxt. I had to buy a couple of timing belt parts and valve buckets, and kyb rear struts. It was actually pretty affordable. I was surprised, especially the struts.

Remember the EDM rear struts are self-leveling..so they are much more expensive than normal OEM KYBs...

In Taiwan, prices on car parts are actually not too bad...but cars themselves costs an arm and a leg.

If you want to know how expensive...well, my 3.0R retails for 65K USD in Taiwan...

I guess I should do my research, but what is the advantage of the self-leveling strut anyway?

When I lived in Norway, I could not believe the price of cars there. Currently, a Forester XT costs 102K USD . But the winner is the 2015 WRX STI: 138000 USD!! no joke. http://www.subaru.no/prisliste

It prevents rear suspension from sagging under load and it only works when the vehicle is in motion, the pumping effect caused by vehicle's own weight extends the rear shocks and brings the rear end to pre-determined height.

Part of the reason is that EDM version comes with factory HID headlamps, which by-law needs to be leveled at all times.

So the HID headlamps of my Outback have self-leveling system built-in, while the rear suspension also self-levels.

I had self leveling Sachs on my 05 CTSV and they were pretty awesome. Love that technology.

Did they last a long time?

The Sachs units didn't last a long time, about 50K miles but I did track the CTSV and drove it in NYC. The leveling wasn't the part that broke on em either.
