DIY Program REMOTE(Video Included)

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I have setup a video for some that are having trouble in getting their remotes to program to the car. There are steps as well listed below. I know that this is in the manual but figured I would share with the people that might not have their manual.

Enjoy.

Programming the remote transmitter code (from the owners manual)

read through this first since eveything needs to be done in a quick sequence

1. Sit in the driver's seat, close all doors and the rear gate or trunk lid etc

2. Open and close the driver's door one time.

then Within 45 seconds

3. open and close the driver's door once

4. turn the ignition key from LOCK to ON 10 times within 15 seconds.

An electronic tone will sound once, a buzzer will continue to sound and the interior light will continue to flash until the transmitter codes are completely registered.

If you do not perform the steps above within 45 seconds an error will occur and neither an electronic tone nor the buzzer will sound and the interior lamp will not flash. In this event, start all over again.

Within 45 seconds do the following

Open and close the driver's door once within 15 seconds and an electronic tone will sound for 30 seconds. If you do not perform the operations within 15 seconds an error will occur and the electronic tone will not sound. In this event, perform the registration steps again beginning with # 3 above.

Ok, here is the fun part...

Before the electronic tone stops, press the power door lock button to LOCK the same number of times as the leftmost digit of the transmitter code.

For example, press the LOCK button 8 times if the leftmost digit of the code is 8. If the number is 3 then LOCK the door 3 times etc...

When you have finished entering the number, push to UNLOCK side within five seconds and

Then do that for all the remaining 7 digits of the code. After each series pull the lock knob to the UNLOCK side within five seconds.

When you are finished, within 5 seconds push that LOCK button to UNLOCK one time and then do it all again, the full series.

Yes, once again start with the left digit and re-enter each one using the lock button within a few seconds.

When you have entered the eighth digit the second time an electronic tone will sound for 30 seconds.

The electronic tone will stop sounding when you start entering the number. If you do not start entering the number using the lock knob before the electronic tone stops sounding, an error will occur. In this event, perform the registration steps again beginning with part 3 above.

If the interval between one push of the knob and the next exceeds five seconds, an error will occur.

In this event, perform the procedure again beginning with part 4. If an error occurs six times, perform the procedure again starting with part 3.

If the code entered the second time is not identical to the code entered the first time, an error will occur. In this event, perform the procedure again beginning with part 5. If an error occurs five times, perform the procedure again starting with part 3.

If you wish to program another transmitter code into the system (up to four transmitter codes can be programmed into the system), perform the procedure beginning with part 4. When you have finished programming all of the necessary transmitter codes into the system, remove the key from the ignition switch.

Test to make sure it's right

Deleting old transmitter codes

The control unit of the keyless entry system can store 4 transmitter codes.

Lost transmitter the lost transmitter's code remains in memory. For security reasons, lost transmitter codes should be deleted from the memory.

To delete old transmitter codes, program four transmitter codes into the system. If you have only one current transmitter, program it four times. If you have two

current transmitters, program each one twice. If you have three current transmitters, program two of them once and the third one twice.

This process will leave only current transmitter codes in the system's memory.

Make sure no one else is operating their keyless entry system within range of your vehicle when programming transmitters. If someone else were to operate their remote transmitter while you are programming your transmitters, it is possible that their transmitter code will be programmed into your system, allowing them unauthorized access to your vehicle.

I dont know if anyone else had this same issue, but i was having trouble getting the system to accept the new codes for my key fobs even after about 10 trys. I have the DRL mod done to my 05 LGT so i plugged it back in and retried programming the remotes and within the first try it took and codes and now both work. I unplugged the DRL module afterwards to keep the mod. I havent looked at the wiring diagram but im assuming there may be a circuit that needs to be closed within the DRL module for the system to take new information. Like i said i dont know if anyone else has had this same issue but i just thought i would share my findings.

So, I tried to do this with my current keys that needed new batteries and was able to get the locks to lock and unlock upon completion. This should tell me the codes were at least identical if not correct. Anyway no worky, worky.

I took my car to the dealer ,mainly for this issue thinking I was not doing something right. Their response was that the keys could not be programmed and that I needed to spend $400 for two new keys and programming. Yea, right.

So, I bought two new uncut keys off of eBay to th tune of $75. I then checked the batteries on the new keys and 2.9V. I attempted to program one of the new keys and received the same result with the doors locking and unlocking. Still no worky, worky.

So, my question is this and maybe this is not the place (forgive me), but if I have tried 4 keys and the car reacts as though it is programmed. But, then doesn't work, is there something in the car that controls this that could be replaced?

Electrically, the things added include lossol boost gauge and the OEM iPod adapter. I have a basic HID kit with no direct to battery upgrade and some LEDs.

Ideas?

the only thing that comes to mind with your problem is that the Key Fob's are for different models. As for trying to program the remotes you have and them possibly working and giving you the green with the lock/unlock I know if you do it so many times it resets the programmer to 0 remotes.

If the programmer is set to 0 remotes. How do you know if you have them programmed or not.

The dealer told me the keys were not working and they had never seen that before. What I have been reading especially from my Security light is that the car could possibly be in valet mode. But, I have heard that to turn off valet mode you are in the car with all the doors closed and unlocked and then you open the driver door and hold down unlock on the remote for 2-3 sec.

I have been able to turn the Alarm on and off using the method described in the manual in which you put the key in the "ON" position of the ignition press the unlock on the Driver's door and then open the Driver's door within 1 sec and continue to hold the unlock button for 10sec. This works not problem both for on and off so that is not it.

Very frustrating this isn't working.

Sorry to hijack as technically your solution above works beautifully. Thanks again for the video.

I bought a used 2010 and it only came with one remote key. I bought an uncut remote key from eBay and found the instructions on how to program online (same as above). I got the 8-digit number from the chip and used it in the programming sequence; however, I cannot get the remote to work. The key is still uncut as I wanted to make sure the remote would work before that. I know it isn't a battery issue because I swapped batteries and the new one works in the old remote. I know it isn't a programming error, because I put in 4 codes with all ones (i.e. 11111111) and then reprogrammed the old remote. It works on the first try every time.

Any ideas?

It is possible that for 2010 Subaru used a different Fob and radio signal for their cars. I know that if you go past a certain year the key fobs do not work unless you switch out the programming box. Witch can sometimes be very very costly.

Ok sorry to dig up an old thread. I am trying to program a flip key that I bought for my 2006. I got the 09 buttons used from ebay and put them in the flip key shell. I am programming it exactly as pictured in the video but it won't work.

I saw the post about the drl disable so I figured that must be the problem, so I plugged my drl back in and tried the process over.

I still cannot get the fob to lock/ unlock the car. I did check the battery and it is working, anyone have an idea why it won't work?
