ragman
I noticed my STI Uppipe has the dreaded heatshield welds that are broken. And the heat shield moves around. Can you this contribute to knock when boosting? I'm just wondering how important it is to pull it off to fix or replace.
compsurge
It could be picked up by the knock sensor, yes. For now, you can put a metal hose clamp around it to hold it in place or tear it off.

I wasnt able to remove it, so I hose clamped the top of the heat shield where the welds failed (even the re-welded spots broke again). It seems the hose clamp is strong enough to stop the rattling. compsurge
Sweeeet. I had a heat shield that failed on my old Protege even after I welded it. PITA since you couldn't rip it off without an angle grinder.
