TrueWhiteBoy
Me in my infinite wisdom decided that "well, stage 2 passed in Nevada, I'll just get an oil change and take it in California too" Passed all the tests but idle. 2005 Legacy GT Stage 2 (STI UP, 1 cat gutted DP, OTS CA Stage 2 Map) Anyone have any suggestions? Types4
Get a catted DP you are going to have to smog every couple years in CA. It's going to be cheaper in the long run. If you want to cheat, use water injection, I've seen it done before. There may also be certain additives you can put in your gas that may help, search google. Chris GTO TT
Yes you will need a Cat of some sort, but what exactly caused you to fail? CO, NOX, Hydrocarbons? that can help us. 2003 Baja 5MT 2016 Outback 2.5i Premium w/Eyesight
Drift Motion
I passed with my Stage 2 + turbo with a cobb DP
m sprank
usually 1 cat will pass. but if the tune is running rich... what emissions did you fail on? was the car good and warm? how long had you driven it before testing?
TrueWhiteBoy
Using a OTS Cobb Stage 2 CA gas tune. I ran it hard for 15 minutes, but once I got there it had to sit for 20 minutes before they looked at it. I passed all visual inspections and functional inspections For idle: Idle | 838 RPM | 13.72 MEAS %CO2 | 0.4 MEAS %O2 | |100 MAX HC (PPM) | 17 AVE HC (PPM) | 226 MEAS HC (PPM) | |1.00 MAX CO(%) | 0.00 AVE CO(%) | 1.22 MEAS CO(%) | I hope this helps. Chris GTO TT
yeah high CO and high HC you need a Cat of some sort. 2003 Baja 5MT 2016 Outback 2.5i Premium w/Eyesight
m sprank
Need at least 1 working cat. Sounds like you might have none.
TrueWhiteBoy
Blah, I should in theory have 1 working one, unless it has gone bad somehow. I believe I have my old stock one, but it's in Vegas. Good reason for a trip I suppose.

Good reason for a trip I suppose. Based on your mod list it looks like you have removed or gutted all the cats. Find an oem down pipe flash to stage 1 or stock and go get tested again. 2003 Baja 5MT 2016 Outback 2.5i Premium w/Eyesight

TrueWhiteBoy
I've got a stock pipe. It looks like I (kinda) lucked out, that my old roommate from Vegas is actually heading to Orange County this weekend and can bring my DP with him. The DP that's currently in there is supposed to have the first cat gutted, but the 2nd cat in place. Is it possible for the 2nd cat to go bad after time? The car has been stage 2 for nearly 60K miles now (it's at 120K now)
m sprank
Very possible second cat went bad (or disintegrated).
TrueWhiteBoy
Good to know. ...since it's the downpipe and heading out through the exhaust, I shouldn't worry about the disintegrating bits breaking anything, right? Man I wish I had a lift. I bet swapping it out would be so much easier.
m sprank
Should not "destroy" anything on the way out. But a large chunk, you never know.
