GT_Red
Ok, I would like some Rota Grids 17x9 with +42 offset, I was trying to decipher the guide above but still a little confused. Is this a good offset that won't rub with decent width tires, such as a 225-255? Thanks for help.
whitetiger
offset is fine though you dont need a 9" wide wheel if you only plan to run a 225 wide tire. for any tire over 245 wide, you will have to think about alignment, ride height and fender rolling to make the tire fit well. boxkita
this thread might give you some idea of the issues with wide wheels/tires. As whitetiger says, if you're on 225 pick a narrower rim. 8inch fits with no problem. Build my car Boxkita Track days
GT_Red
Thanks for the helpful thread. I was just trying to get a feel for what tire would fit on it without rubbing. There is a choice, 17x9 or 17x7.5 What I want to know is, I like that concave look, will it look that way with the 17x7.5 or does it have to be a wider rim to get that? iNVAR
Concave look? You mean stretched? Ugh... I understand doing it for fitment/rubbing issues but for looks? Hell no. http://slcsubaru.freeforums.org/rim-tire-fitment-question-t4884.html Shows 225/45 on a 9" rim. Here's another example: http://legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3905363&postcount=6 That's 225/45 on 7.5" rim. Use the search or something. bnguyenbb6
Concave is concave. Stretched is stretched. My set up is about halfway down the page in here : http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/official-wheel-fitment-thread-182819.html?t=182819&highlight=fitment I have 17x9 +38 which is only 4mm's out more. iNVAR
So concave has to do with the rim design, not the tires? And why do your tires look less stretched than the ones in the other pictures? Or this one? This is supposed to be 225/45 on a 17x9 also: http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/4386/40130289.jpg http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/1898/39825817.jpg
DRoc7822
Concave is like the XXR 527... where the center of the wheel kinda caves in. Your links though have made me make up my mind on wheels.

This is supposed to be 225/45 on a 17x9 also: do you even know the difference between concave and stretch tires? and every tires, same width say 225, have slightly different actual width, hence the different stretched look
iNVAR
No, I don't... Which is why I asked. I knew that widths were slightly different but didn't realize they'd be different enough to make that dramatic a difference in appearance.
DRoc7822
Usually the wider and less of a offset on a wheel the more concave a wheel has. Like I said, look up the XXR 527 with +25 offset and thats a concave wheel. Thats the only example I can think of right now.

Compare 18x8.5 vs 18x9.5 rota grids. you can see an obvious difference in concavity.
GT_Red
I am talking about the rim, specifically the rotas grids. From photos it looks like the 17x7.5 do not bend inward like the 17x9s. I wanted to confirm this before I went with rims that I was not going for. Also, what do you guys prefer, bronze or gold?
I Donated Too laff79 Posted June 9, 2012 I Donated Too Share Posted June 9, 2012 that is because of the offset which is capable on a 9in rim vs. a 7.5in rim. More width + lower offset = concavity. On your car? Gold would look better. See those stickies up at the` topof the page? Check em
JPU1
Nothing to do with the tires, the concave appearance is a result of the hub offset relative to the width of the wheel. http://amazing-space.stsci.edu/resources/explorations/groundup/lesson/glossary/glossary_terms/graphics/igt5_concaveconvex.gif Stretched tires are a result of too wide a wheel under the car, and the fenders/strut assemblies coming into contact with properly sized tires... Also, what do you guys prefer, bronze or gold? On red, I'd choose Bronze over Gold. Color is Preference. I have a white car, I won't buy dark colored wheels... because I don't like it. A LOT of people here will disagree with me, I don't care.
