monkeyposeur
I am thinking about getting a new fuel pump for the SS. Is a Walbro 255 the way to go? I was looking around on ebay and it seems that it is a somewhat universal pump. Is there a specific model that is best for our leggies?
legacyssturbofreak
there is no specific model number for subarus. they base it off of the sti. all subie fuel pumps are the same except sti pumps have a slightly higher flow.
monkeyposeur
I ordered the Walbro.
sqc151
expect to run rich and get poor gas mileage with out any mods to utilize the 255 pump. otherwise you can use sti or wrx.
monkeyposeur
I'm only getting 19 mpg at the moment so I am already getting poor gas mileage. I am looking to fix a hesitation problem which could be the result of a dying fuel pump. I admit it is not likely the problem. I have heard that some guys on bbs reported that using a walbro on stock components worked well for them. What mods are you referring to?
sqc151
atleast an intake and exhaust.
monkeyposeur
I did some more research on putting a Walbro in a stock SS on BBS and it appears that some are of the opinion that it will work just fine. No mention of running rich, though. http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=39500
sqc151
thats just it, its all opinion. just like my post. thats my 2 cents thats all. after 20 years of modding cars, ive learned to do things a certain way, and im still learning.
monkeyposeur
Oh for sure. I wasn't discounting your opinion by any means. I am just trying to figure out if I made the right decision buying this fuel pump. Do you think that since the wrx or sti pumps don't flow as much that they would be a better replacement? I can always send it back when it gets here. edit: Something happened with my payment when I tried to buy the Walbro and the order didn't go through. Maybe it is a good thing if the wrx or sti pump will be a better option for me.
sqc151
im not saying its a bad decision if you mod the car in the future. if its gonna stay stock for awhile, imo id use the sti pump.
