USLiberty
Here we go, my second legacy build. The white 93 SS was hit in front of the drivers wheel, unibody bent at the crossmember... total loss on the unibody. This is more of a shell swap than a from scratch build. This time I will be swapping my SS drivetrain into this innocent looking 93 legacy FWD sedan. I picked it up on craigslist for 500$ with a bad rod knock. It will need some minor body work and a paintjob after everything is done. Ill update as I go. Heres a list of mods that were on my SS -JDM Phase 1 EJ20G(new oil pump, water pump, idler bearings, timing belt, camcover gaskets, camseals, mainseals, rubber hoses) -Link Plus Standalone EMS -Ported exhaust manifold, uppipe -3" downpipe straight back to a magnaflow -ACT lightweight flywheel -Exedy stage 1 clutch -STI motor mounts, transmounts, dogbone mount -Ksport coilovers -CXracing FMIC -HKS SSQV BOV(black) -HKS EVC2 boost controller -17"Legacy GTwheels painted satin black with Kuhmo ASX 225/45/17 -AEM UEGO O2 -Custom louvers in place of scoop -Pioneer H.U, 6-1/2" infinity reference components front/back, Kicker solobaric 12" L5 sub being pushed by a DEI 600D amp -Optima yellow top mounted in trunk -Walbro 255 fuel pump -Recaro sportline drivers seat wrapped with leather/power/heated/cooled(so comfortable, my favorite mod) -EBC green stuff brake pads -Autometer Oil pressure/Boost/Exhaust temp gauges mounted under H.U -new carpeting -door cards, rear deck wrapped in grey vinyl I will add as I remember more
USLiberty
Today I pulled the dead motor/auto transmission out of my lt.blue Legacy L, strange thing is the motor was not a 2.2 liter, it was an EJ20. Didnt know they put the 2.0 in the 93 legacy L FWD, anyways I will be donating it a friend who will swap the crank and use it in his legacy temporarily. I already pulled everything except the crossmembers from my SS. While my 20G was out I ported the exhaust manifold, installed/resurfaced streetlite ACT flywheel, replaced the broken camgear, covers and timing belt. Tomorrow I will clean the engine bay/underside, grind the battery mount out(repaint), install/swap the turbo front crossmember with wheels and steering rack still on. We'll see how far I get. -pics are of porting work, EJ20G broken, and of the damaged unibody.
USLiberty
Saturday I got the crossmembers swapped. I took off the wheels, coilovers and steering shaft and it came out and went in pretty easy.noticed i had ripped the boot on the lower ball joint so Sunday I put the new one on and while I was removing interior I sprained my ankle slipping on a step. So my day ended early but ill be out there with crutches and the creeper. Only thing that's not getting swapped is the dash but it is getting painted. I'm am really hoping the wet weight is gonna be under 3000lbs with full interior.
USLiberty
I pulled the dashboard out to paint it and make running of my wiring harness easier. I swapped shifters then moved to swap the clutch pedal set where I had to drill some holes through the firewall to accommodate the hydraulic clutch slave cylinder. I also pulled the nasty carpeting and will probably remove some old insulation to make way for a little dynamat where needed. Pulling any unnecessary ecm wiring also. USLiberty
I am updating based on my legacycentral.org build journal at http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=49620 I then began by swapping the tinted door windowsin , and ended up swapping all the window felt, window motors and a mirror. This was a long day. Here you can see the ugly side with body damage in the rear. I will be doing the body work and prepping it for paint myself. I will have a decent paint job for 300$ with the proper prepping. http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6020010.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6020011.jpg I then swapped the front crossmember and coilovers in, there were plastic plugs covering the captive nuts. I broke one of the captive nuts loose and had to drill a hole in the floorboards to reach it. http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6020012.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6020014.jpg To paint the dash I used TSP to clean it and a high pressure washer to spray it off. I let it dry throughly and gave it a light layer of "Bulldog" adhesion promoter, let it dry and gave it another thicker layer. After it dried for 24 hours I gave it 2 cans of SEM interior paint in Pewter grey to match my door panels. Started off light and over 2 days got 2 cans of 15$/each paint. I hope this holds better than the last dash I painted, seems to. http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6020018.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6020019.jpg I then began installing my infinity reference series component speakers and all the interior trim that was painted black from the last project. http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6020020.jpg Also the new carpeting got swapped in, charcoal black I ordered for an impreza and had to do some minor trimming. My weakness is interior but its just practice. I will get some pics of the door panels I rewrapped(3times) with grey vinyl. http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6020021.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6020022.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6020028.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6020027.jpg I then installed all the Link Plus Engine management wiring and removed all unnessesary factory wiring. Then ran dual 4 guage power wire to the trunk for the battery. The motor went in like butter, after making sure the clutch fork and throw out bearing were properly positioned. http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6030031.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6030032.jpg Im very pleased with all the extra room I have in the engine bay. monkeyposeur
Hey, I'll take the a lot of air intake parts if they are not too much or cracked. Especially the black plastic air intake that attaches to the throttle body. edit: I need part 21 from the diagram at the very least.
USLiberty
Today, I got the 5 spd shifter swapped into the auto. Then pulled the nasty seats which uncovered some even worse carpeting.next up is installing the new carpet and removing any useless ECMs, wiring or unnecessary equipment eg....airbag computer. My donor car has no ABS where my SS did. I didn't like the antilock anyways. Also no sunroof and those weigh a brick or two. I will be using the SS leather interior. I also had the top of the door cards wrapped in grey vinyl along with a painted semi gloss grey dashboard. The shifter bolted right in to thanks to some permanent nuts plugged with plastic right where the manual transmission equipment normally uses it. gotta love Subaru for lego like fitment. USLiberty
Here goes the FMIC install, this install I was shooting for a little less piping than previous. I suceeded in losing about 18 inches of extra pipe by going where the ABS was and tucking the piping under the headlights. I used about 6- 4" metal cutting wheels by the time it was over. http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/IMG_20120607_110503.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/IMG_20120607_185448.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/IMG_20120608_104424.jpg It always feels good removing junk like this http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/IMG_20120607_185138.jpg I wanted to install the FMIC with endcaps up but it proved to be far too much work as the IC I have is rather large. http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/IMG_20120608_132803.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/IMG_20120609_131810.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/IMG_20120609_131845.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/IMG_20120609_131859.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/IMG_20120609_155725.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/IMG_20120609_165755.jpg After I got the bumper on I noticed one problem. It was still too obvious, so I painted the IC piping in the bumper black with a rubberized coating. I also spent a day rolling the front fenders so I can fit the 17" LGT wheels with Kuhmo ASX's 225/45/17's. http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6140041.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6140042.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6140043.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6140044.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6140045.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6140046.jpg
USLiberty
begining to swap the rear crossmember, fuel tank and coilovers. http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6160052.jpg I got the door cards installed. These door panels came with my SS but I guess was swapped for LXi panels at the dealership. The original owner was the service manager at the local dealership so he ordered all leather interior but no VLSD http://bbs.legacycentral.org/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif Anyways in the first build I rewrapped the deteriorating top part with grey vinyl and since I am not an uphostery guy I had to reapply glue to keep the vinyl on. I found the best way was to use 3m Superweatherstrip and gasket adhesive. Its a contact adhesive, Unlike what the directions said to wait 5-6 minutes before sticking the contact surfaces, I waited a few hours. Then when I went to apply the two dried pieces together, I reapplied a fresh layer of glue and then stuck the two sides together. They hold so much better now and I dont think Ill have any further problems. This method works great with any contact adhesive I have found. I also rewrapped the front speaker covers with grey to match, in the last build. http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6160049.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6160050.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6160051.jpg I got the AWD rear crossmember out, it was a little more involved than the front crossmember, I dropped the diff, brakes and crossmember in one piece so it was rather heavy but an ATV jack along with a hydralic car jack made it possible by myself. Then I dropped the gas tank using the ATV jack. I noticed the AWD gas tank has a few extra fuel lines, and an extra fuel level sender. maybe part of the purge system and I can just delete some lines. I hope the gas gauge still works with just plugging in the AWD tank. I do have a fuel gauge that matches the ohms of the factory gauge, but hopefully I wont need to use it. I also installed the rear speakers while the windows were out, they are infinity reference series 5-1/4" components and they sounded tits in the last car. I installed them with foam speaker pods to seal them off from the trunk airspace, this will help with sound quality. My tweeters are mounted in the rear deck lid cover that I also rewrapped in grey vinyl to match. http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6190056.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6190057.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6190058.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6190059.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6190060.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6190054.jpg I got the Fuel tank installed and rear crossmember bolted up, let someone else help and they stripped a captive nut >=-( Its pretty easy to fix. It seems, whenever someone helps me out, even for just a second, something happens. Guess, I just gotta do it myself. Tomorrow, I will get a tap and get that last bolt in. I also have to swap a couple stripped wheel studs, courtesy of my tire shop using inpact wrenches to torque the lug nuts. http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6200061.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6200062.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6210063.jpg I finally got to put the wheels on the rear and set it down to admire it at ride height. I still have to raise it anohter 3/8" in the front but I will get that after I get the DP, exhaust on. Also had to order a driveshaft bolt drom subaru as I lost one. 2.91$ for 2 at the subaru dealership. Thats the cheapest I've ever gotten out of a dealership for. LOL, I was expecting a 15$ bolt, http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6230069.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6230075.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6230072.jpg http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/USLIberty/P6230077.jpg
USLiberty
3" DP to a 3" magnaflow installed, Took the rear bumber off to inspect damage. I am leaving for a week so I will begin bodywork and finish up the front fuse area to see if my wiring job turns the motor over. Also got the gauges installed in my custom cluster unser the stereo. i used shee aluminum, drilled the holes, cut the shape out then wrapped it with the grey vinyl. Boost/EGT/oil pressure all by autometer, I have a custom pillar mount for the AEM UEGO.

USLiberty
Forgot about this thread, I have been driving it for about 2 years. Its painted, been on 3 long roadtrips including 1 from AZ-CA. I broke my SS 5speed and got a freebie on a 03 wrx trans/diff. It moves pretty good for a factory turbo, especially down by the beach at night, its a beemer ego buster. I use cam/crank sensors on my linkplus. I was burning up jdm coilpacks and had to go with AEM "dumb " coilpacks to handle the extra dwell of the link ecu signal, the 4 AEM coilpacks are sitting on top of my motor with some custom brackets; then I used plug wires from an old pile of legos. They fire one hell of a spark, probably going to go one step colder and largen the gap when I get a turbo upgrade.
