Gemini91
I added 4quarts new oil in the oil change and noticed the oil lever was way higher than the "full" mark on the stick. When I start engine there is white smoke coming out from the exhaust for about 1 second. The smoke smells like somthing is burnt.. But after that the car still runs as usual. I think maybe it's the coolant leak? But I checked the coolant tank in these two days and didnt find obvious change of the coolant level. I think there must be something mixing with my oil? but what is it?
Gemini91
Ok,after sucking some oil out, I see the drop of coolant level...
austin42008
Their is prob just 2 much oil. Like you said it is showing more oil then full. Do another oil change and make sure it all drains out. The smokeing is your motor burining the extra oil prob.
Gemini91
but 4 quarts is that much? according to the user manual, oil capacity is more than that
Vinny78
are you sure you drained the oil pan and not the trans pan plug, its easy to get mixed up
Vinny78
there could actually be 8 quarts and no transfluid.
Mega Users paintpollz Posted May 8, 2012 Mega Users Share Posted May 8, 2012 are you sure you drained the oil pan and not the trans pan plug, its easy to get mixed up this almost sounds like whats going on. how the ef could you mix that up. one bolts is on the transmission and is a torx bolt, and the other is on a pan and is a metric bolt:confused: "Remember Danny - Two wrongs don't make a right but three rights make a left." Just noticed I drained my differential gear oil:eek:, which makes me feel I'm really stupid... But I still have a silly question about motor oil. I removed the oil filter during "oil change" and got plenty of oil out after that. So simply removing the oil filter cannot get all oil out? Vinny78
That is correct, the oil filter will not act as a drain plug itsself. It will not get all the oil out!

But I still have a silly question about motor oil. I removed the oil filter during "oil change" and got plenty of oil out after that. So simply removing the oil filter cannot get all oil out? Nope. you need to train the pan, and the only way to do that is to remove the plug (or simply open the fumoto valve ) usually drain the oil pan first then use the solo cup trick (put cup around the filter then unscrew it) to minimize oil getting onto the manifold and stinking up the cabin when it burns off. Another trick I like to use is to hammer a screwdriver into the bottom of the filter then move the catch pan under it, and drain the oil out before you take the filter off. AZP Installs
You will get very little oil out by removing only the filter! Most of the oil will be in the pan which sits lower than the filter. -mike http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpghttp://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/141039922.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://upload.pbase.com/image/137566671.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. AZP Installs
yeah, seriously, how does this happen? unless automatics use a diff bolt or something The drain for the front diffy on at cars is not the hex/star bolt. It is a regular bolt and is relatively far forward. -mike http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpghttp://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/141039922.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://upload.pbase.com/image/137566671.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts.
