jkp
I have a 2009 Legacy 4 speed auto- went to dealer to get a replacement filter- no longer applicable. No spin on, non serviceable internal screen. Was this a step forward or backward? I use my car daily for work, ( over (90,000 miles presently) - had the dealer service it at 69,000 and want another transmission service soon. I can`t change this design , but encourage opinions on whether a serviceable filter was overkill, or this was a cost cutting measure by the manufacturer? Appreciate any opinions, including recommendations other than Subaru OE ATF. Thanks, Kelly
rob-2
Some places say the filter is for life and other dealerships say you do it at 60K.
sahrbjr
I worked at the dealership for a number of years and saw vehicles with serviceable filters with 200,000 miles and other vehicles with non serviceable systems with similar mileage. Its definitely a cost that the manufacturer considers. Honestly I think replace it regurlarly maybe a little sooner at the 30,000 mile mark with subaru fluid and you'll be fine. At 30,000 the fluid will be visibly dark and ready to be changed.
