Picky1
I am new to this board and I recently replaced my 2000 Outback Wagon with a 2012 Legacy Premium 2.5 This is the first new car I have had in a long time and I was thinking about making the switch to Synthetic oil after the first oil change at 3,000 miles. From first hand experience I found the boxer engine to be easy on oil, but I was thinking that with synthetic oil I might get slightly better gas mileage and be able to comfortably run the 7,500 mile intervals that are specified in the owner’s manual. Thoughts? Feedback welcomed.
Whatisit
Its all about personal preferance. Just dont go beyond the change intervals if you plan on keeping your powertrain warranty.
AZP Installs
I find it to be inexpensive peace of mind, especially with the 7500 mile intervals now allowed on all subies. -mike http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpghttp://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/141039922.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://upload.pbase.com/image/137566671.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. apexi
I think its a good idea if you plan to run 7500 mile oil change intervals. I'm sure if subie says conventional is ok for 7500, then it is. But if I were in your shoes, I too would run synthetic. I wouldn't expect any changes in mpg from conventional vs synthetic, the only thing that could impact mpg is the oil weight you choose, e.g. 0w-20 vs 5w-
