nightspeed98
Here's the thing, I'm at 2900 miles, my car's manual says to do oil change at 7500 mile intervals. My dealer has a thing where if i do them every 3k, they will cover my drivetrain after the 60k warranty expires. It means I'm doing more oil changes (synthetic and at my cost), but is it worth it? Thoughts?
CL21376
I thought Subaru changed OCI to 3/3750 for all turbos in MY11?
impossibru
Ive heard that if you don't you basically void any power train warranty if something goes wrong. Better spend the small amount of money to do oil changes than to be on your own in the end. Keep all your service records.

CL21376
all new Subarus do 7500 change with synthetic EXCEPT the 6 cyl AND Forester they stay on the 3750 schedule. as per my manual. Cars 101 http://www.cars101.com/subaru/maintenance2.html cliff notes: > Early warranty books: the Subaru maintenance schedule note #1 reads "When the vehicle is used under severe driving conditions, the engine oil and filter should be changed every 3,750 miles or 3 3/4 months. All turbo-charges vehicles are considered to be operated under severe driving conditions" > Later warranty books: the statement no longer includes All turbo-charges vehicles are considered to be operated under severe driving conditions. Suggested: do the first oil change by 3mos or 3000 miles and then at least a minimum of every 7500 miles or 7.5 months afterwards. It comes down to are you going to keep the car for 60K miles, or are you going to do anything else that might impact them extending your warranty. It probably doesn't matter. The most important thing is to check your oil frequently and make sure its full.
pillboy
How long after the factory 60k powertrain warranty will they cover things and does this include the turbo? And do you have this in writing or is it just some employee blowing smoke? It is still ugly.

Also, I asked how it worked, how it was financed. Service manager told me every other oil change's funds go towards funding the warranty service. In essence, like social security lmao. We pay now for those retired and hope when we retire there are funds available...

nightspeed98
Yes. First year is supposed to be included.
bluesubie
So would that be like a $90 oil change with the Subaru synthetic every 3,000 miles? Can you bring your own oil and save money? Would it only be a lube, oil, and filter or will they also charge you a bunch of add-ons for service? Even if they don't have add-ons every 3k miles, they'll still probably have add-ons for other services. I'm leery of any warranty that is not backed by SoA. Is the turbo covered? I can't find it on their web site. In the long run, you may be saving money just sticking with SoA's, and not Pine Belt's, maintenance schedule. Try finding someone that's used this warranty (here, nasioc, iwsti, etc.). -Dennis
CL21376
Yes. First year is supposed to be included. If you normally return to the dealer for maintenance I suppose it makes sense. Although you might want to calculate the cost vs getting an extended warranty. I find it more convenient to just DIY oil changes than return to the dealer. But I also tend to avoid the dealer unless its for a warranty fix.
AZP Installs
It is a scam, imo. Like bluesubie said, SOA warranties are the way to go. Also on all new subies the interval is 7500 miles (my 2011+) on turbos and h6 they require synthetic, non turbos can go 7500 with non synth. -mike http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpghttp://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/141039922.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://upload.pbase.com/image/137566671.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts.
