ehh
Let me start this out by saying this is not my car, but it belongs to my brother. The goal with this system is to add a little bass to the car that seemed to get washed out at high volumes with the stock system. We are also on a tight budget and wanted to keep the cost of everything when we were all said and done under a 1000. For starters we went with a pioner deh 3300 Here is a picture of it installed http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad84/1213648/bens%20build/0316122225.jpg Here is a picture of it next to the stock radio. http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad84/1213648/bens%20build/0316121829.jpg For wire we went with Knukonceptz 0 gage CCA. Wiring it was not fun at all. It took about 3 hours. I wanted to avoid pulling up the seats at all cost. but after trying every way imaginable it came down to just ripping all the seats and carpet up. I decided to start from the back to make sure I had enough slack back there. We have plans of mounting the amp under neath the carpet in the trunk in the large recess that is there. I ran the power wire and turn on wire down the left side of the car and the Rcas down the right http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad84/1213648/bens%20build/0317121816.jpg here is where the power wire dipped into the carpet. We unbolted the drivers side seat and pulled up the back seat. and removed all the clips holding down the carpet. But for the life of me I could not get one of the clips up that held the back door trim piece on. I have no idea why but that thing was not coming out of there and will probably never come un clipped. Subaru planed on this car staying together in one piece. Because the one clip stayed in we had to use a wire fish to send the wire under neath the piece of carpet we couldnt get to. There are also some metal bumps under the seat that are hard to weave the wire through. We had to just really get in there and reach for it. http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad84/1213648/bens%20build/0317121605.jpg The RCA's were much easier to do and didnt require removing the seat here is how I ran them http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad84/1213648/bens%20build/0317121605b.jpg Once we had the wire ran to the drivers side foot pedals I decided it would be best tor un it through the large "LH" Gasket that was un used. Once we ran it through I put on a shoche 0 gauge gromet and used some silicone to secure it. From there we mounted the ANL fuse holder with zip ties and secured it to the frame. Unfortunately there is no pics of that Now that all the wires were in and the head unit was in I had to come up with a sub stage for him. I decided to go with the new proto type 8 in sub woofer from Sundown Audio. The sa-8 v.2. I chose it for its ability to deliver a large punch in such a small size. Powering it I chose to go with a Audioque 750.1. The sub was on pre order for about 2 months and is finally shipping out and arriving here on thursday and were very excited. here are some pics of it. http://www.sundownaudio.com/misc/protos/SA-8/v2_Version/Complete_Sample/1.JPG http://www.sundownaudio.com/misc/protos/SA-8/v2_Version/Complete_Sample/2.JPG http://www.sundownaudio.com/misc/protos/SA-8/v2_Version/Complete_Sample/3.JPG while we waited we decided to go ahead and build a box. I unfortunately dont know enough to design them and my brother couldnt figure out how to get the port length right while keeping the air space of the box correct. We decided to purchase designs from Ram Designs. Their website is here http://www.ram-designs.com/ here is a couple pics of the box being made http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad84/1213648/bens%20build/downsizer.jpg http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad84/1213648/bens%20build/downsize.jpg http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad84/1213648/bens%20build/downsizedlu.jpg http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad84/1213648/bens%20build/downsizedddd.jpg http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad84/1213648/bens%20build/downsizefinished.jpg and tada http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad84/1213648/bens%20build/0415121420a.jpg Now all that is left is waiting for the sub to finally arive. Plans for the future are to do a full layer of Audio Technix sound deadener and a few pieces of Cld tiles. Then replace the front stage components with a pair or hertz, morels, or cdts havent quite decided yet
ehh
Well yesterday was not a fun day. but we finally got the sub. http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad84/1213648/0418121438.jpg http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad84/1213648/0418121743.jpg just for shits and gigs here is a picture of it next to a kicker comp 12 http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad84/1213648/0418121654a.jpg http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad84/1213648/0418121654.jpg We had quite a few problems actually droping the sub in place and had to do some sanding on cut out for the sub for it too fit. The mounting rings and the edge of the basket are way to **** close together take a look at the pic there is that much clearance all the way around http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad84/1213648/0418121850.jpg here is the amp rack. Thrown together but sometimes its best to keep it simple http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad84/1213648/0418121753.jpg and what it looks line installed http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad84/1213648/0418122020.jpg

Morbane
That backdoor trim piece will come out. I used a giant screwdriver to pry at it (and a lot of cursing). Also, that box is huge! How much does it weight? I like the wiring job, 0 guage FTW.
ehh
That backdoor trim piece will come out. I used a giant screwdriver to pry at it (and a lot of cursing). Also, that box is huge! How much does it weight? I like the wiring job, 0 guage FTW. Yes I just wasnt willing to sit there all day going at the trim piece but it all worked out in the end.:. The box ended up beign 1.5 cubic feet before displacement and .75 cubic feet after displacement and it is tuned to 35htz. The 0 gauge was just to give him some head room incase he decided to upgrade to a bigger 8. As for as weight the box weighs around 20 lbs and the subwoofer weighs 21 it is an amazing little 8 though . it is barely moving on the 500 watts he is giving it and now hes looking at putting 1k on it. ehh
Quick little update, received the deadener in the mail a couple of days ago and got around to applying it yesterday. We learned that the mounting depth for the speakers is extremely shallow. kind of a bummer but mounting brackets will be made Here it is 75 sqft of audio technix http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad84/1213648/0501121518.jpg http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad84/1213648/0501121518a.jpg just one roll all by its lonesome http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad84/1213648/0501121735.jpg out with the stock deadener http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad84/1213648/0501121807.jpg The door completely stripped http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad84/1213648/0501121846.jpg Inside coating http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad84/1213648/0501121952.jpg http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad84/1213648/0501121952a.jpg All covered up http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad84/1213648/0501122033.jpg we ended up using about 2/3 of one 25 sqft roll to do both front doors we plan on doing the back doors and the trunk floor. The difference this stuff made on the front doors was unbelievable anyone contemplating weather they should deaden their doors do it. It got rid of an anoyying humm he had in one door, and really brought out the midd bass even from the stock harmon and kardon speakers
