An idea I had for the rear light bars on Outbacks

My idea: paint the center part of the light bar on the rear of Gen 2 or Gen 3 Outbacks the body color, making it look like a traditional taillight layout instead of the light bar.

Has anyone ever done something like this before?? Input/opinions?

This is just a rough sketch I drew up in photoshop. Used photoshop for window tints, grayed-out taillights, and to lower the car. Base image is my Outback, which is unfortunately stock... but probably won't be for long ;)

Thx :)

Alright, did some work on this drafting it up, and this was what I came up with (done with paper and tape because I'm 5 years old hahaha).

I'm lightly debating about actually doing this, but I have no idea what would be the best way to go about it.

Two ideas I had for how to do it:

1. Buy an OEM tail-light bar and some body-matched paint, and just outline and spray (I'd probably have a shop do this; don't feel confident in my abilities with a paint gun haha).

2. Make a plastic or vinyl piece similar to the eyelids some people put on their car's headlights in the shape I want, and stick that on the taillight.

What are your guy's opinions on the look? Do you like it, or do you prefer stock? Also, any input on how to do something like this would be appreciated

Thanks!!!

You could try vinyl wrapping it, as you can tint lights with vinyl and you can vinyl wrap cars different colors... why not just "murder out" your lights with non transparent vinyl?

Idk, I kind of want to try the body-matched look.

Murdering it out instead would be a good alternative though, you're right.
