gr4v3r
I just got an 05 LGT and am looking to add a bit more power without going to crazy. I have been searching for days now and I think my questions can be answered pretty easily so I hope I'm not flamed. 1. I am not a fan of a loud exhaust. Would it be fine to just run an uppipe, open source tune and keep the stock downpipe/CBE? 2. or, For a starter would you guys recommend just going with a tune and CAI then decide if I need more power later on get the piping and re-tune it? 3. Cobb AP or open source tune? I was planning on talking to infamous1 about a tune but am now thinking if i ever upgrade to stage 2 I will need a new map and end up spending more money on open source. If anything I said is completely wrong or dumb please let me know learn from your mistakes
Drift Motion
1. just keep stock CBE, and change out the rest 2. get everything and tune at once, save money 3. open source - contact infamous1 [/endthread]
gr4v3r
I'm very happy with this answer, it's what I thought as well, thanks a lot. Would you recommend a downpipe as well or just getting an uppipe is fine? From what I read our stock uppipe has an additional sensor which isn't needed so it is a nice gain changing it. For that reason would it be a cheap/smart route to just get a used 07+ uppipe? Sorry for all the questions .
gr4v3r
Also I got the car with 90k miles so I'm a bit nervous. how much more strain would this be on the engine? would these gains not be much of a worry?
Drift Motion
I got my car with 92k, gutted uppipe, cobb downpipe, BNR 16G, AEM CAI, tune wish I had the money for TMIC, pump and injectors tho
gr4v3r
ya I am in the same budget boat. I'm thinking of starting with invidia uppipe, invidia downpipe, AEM CAI, and tune. This should net me nice safe gains without breaking the bank, correct?
Drift Motion
if you want to save money just gut the stock uppipe, CAI is purely for the sound (read: optional)
gr4v3r
ya I like the sound . I live in the NYC with no garage so gutting isnt something I can do too easily. If i'm gong to pay someone to gut it i think I may as well just spend the money on a new
compsurge
Uppipe is a PITA since you have to jack up engine to get it out. Downpipe is easy I recommend Invidia or an OEM catless.

gr4v3r
I am going through the thread now but I am pretty new to this. What are the benefits of removing the banjo bolt filter? is it for protection? edit: So this is just to protect my turbo from being oil starved if it gets clogged? LosAngelesLGT
Yes. While not a game changer, it will be if it goes wrong.

compsurge
Gaskets - you will probably need new ones. Ask AZP if they have them in stock.
gr4v3r
are their any major gains for purchasing new UP/DP as apposed to gutting the stock ones? Will i pass inspection with gutted UP/DP? edit: This thread seems to answer my question but feel free to chime in http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/gutted-oem-down-pipe-vs-aftermarket-cat-less-downpipe-85088p3.html
Drift Motion
plastidip? tint? how are they related? and you can usually find used AEM intake for under $100...
compsurge
If you have any sort of smell or exhaust measurement test, you will obviously fail with emissions inspection.

WTF? Who the hell slipped that AEM CAI in there? DELETE that SHYT it is not going to help you at all at stage2. I would also get an STI or OEM catless up (07+) for around $50. compsurge
Are you painting your whole car with plastidip?
gr4v3r
lol i just copy and pasted my excel sheet of stuff I plan to buy, the plasti-dip is for the grill/stock rims. I am no longer getting the CAI after reading more about it. Also I may just gut the UP/DP instead of getting new ones. New list Gutting UP/DP (leaving price because I have no idea what I would be charged) $300 VagCom Cable $20 Opensource Tune $150 New cost of budget stage 2= $470! Thoughts?
