doctorbrody
While driving between Baltimore and Boston, I started to develop a strong vibration in the car when on the throttle. Vibration disappeared when I took my foot off the gas. Once home I lifted the car and saw diff oil leaking from where the passenger side half-shaft meets the front differential. Dipstick level was just above L. Drained and refilled and found some tiny metal pieces in the remaining fluid. It drives a bit better now, but still definitely a problem. Amsoil 5EAT fluid looks good and trans is shifting fine, engine is running smooth. The axle at the leak is a $75 EMPI which I installed a year (15k miles) ago. I have a spare axle on hand, since my CV boots go so often. I'm going to swap them out and see what that does. Fingers crossed. Anyone know if there is a seal in the front diff that I can replace as well? Or is it more likely the leak is because the axle's splines or whatever are worn down? startingtolikesubaru
Did you find out if there was a seal on the outside of the differential case?
doctorbrody
Yes, there is a seal that needed to be replaced. Once you have the axle out of the differential it's easy to replace, just use a seal puller and press the new one in by hand. No more leaks.
