My wagon has been running a little hot lately and I have a minimal amount of fluid leaking right along the top rail of my radiator. I would like to replace it with a mishimoto but is the X-line necessary if I'm not taking it to the track and also do I need a tranny cooler for a 5EAT.

Yeah, the mishimoto non-xline would be fine for you. You would need to get a trans cooler though as it doesnt have an internal one like an oem would. We can also get an oem replacement for you if you didnt want to mess with the atf cooler.

Can you comment on the fitment issues if any? I just want to know what I am getting into before I get it all torn apart. I would probably go with the X-line.

Havent seen the xline in a lgt. The regular one has fit in w/o issue for us. Mishimoto says it is a direct fitment as well.

With the cold front coming through, last night I pulled her into the garage to add antifreeze. This morning after sitting in the garage all night, there were not any leaks. So I opened the cap to see what temperature the coolant can stand. When I did, the radiator was under a little bit of pressure. When the pressure subsided I could hear fluid running onto the ground. So that must be why it leaks in the morning. When I first crank it up the pressure drops somehow? Then the radiator leaks. Once it is warm and/or under pressure then it stops.

Last night it did not leak any when it was warm, and I had the cap off (No pressure).

I don't think I want to be the guinea pig then. I will just order the regular one. Do you have a website I can order from?

I also saw this comment about the radiator. "Use large fitting for 05-09 Legacy GT" Is this an extra part I need before I get started?

Has anyone else used the xline one before? I would like the extra capacity, but I dont want to be the first.

I definately want to take advantage of the better cooling but it depends on how difficult to add the tranny cooler on.I have been thinking about a valve body for the tranny anyway so that might be the way to go. I will give you guys a call in the morning and work out the details. I might just go over and pick it up.

I put in an e-mail to our distributor to check with Mishimoto and make sure there are no other parts needed. We can send you a paypal invoice once I get the reply from our distributor.

Just heard back. The X-Line doesn't fit. The regular is a direct drop in and comes with an adapter for the overflow bottle for the coolant. That is the "large fitting" v. "small fitting".

Shoot us a PM and we can send you an invoice via Paypal and we'll get the ball rolling if you want to purchase it.

  • 3 weeks later...

I just got the Mishimoto Radiator installed. When I got the old one out the issue turned out to be the fingers that hold the plastic bottom on had started to open up.

The one issue I am having is the Mishimoto radiator is a little larger. When the system is under pressure, the top hose gets just big enough to interfere with the passenger side fan. Did anyone else have this issue? How did you fix it if so?

Hi Mike,

Remember, I sent you a PM explaining how I SHOULD have ordered it from you. I confused you with one of the guys who sells out of their apartment.

I got it from Infamous. He explained how you are one of the good guys.

Oh yeah. Haaa.

Anyway, did you replace your upper rad hose? We have seen on a lot of occasions where older hoses expand out and get nicked by the fans.

I am glad you got it from mikey, he is a great quality reseller as well!

No I did not, The hose seemed to be in good shape. It did not really balloon any. With the radiator being larger, it pushed the fan closer to the hose. I think it would hit even without the system under pressure.

I also understand why the radiator failed. The hose going into the overflow tank made a seal to the bottom of the tank not allowing fluid to go back into the system. When the radiator would cool down, it would create a negative pressure in the system and with repeated cycles the fingers came un-bent a little.
