nick.cfrancis
So last weekend I made a hybrid intake using an intake off a 95 Legacy (no torque box). There is a slight increase in power above 4k rpms and a definite increase in noise. http://youtu.be/ZpxzYy9G_-U My next idea is to remove the intake filter box and the snorkus and replace them with a length of tubing cut off another 95 Legacy intake. Then I will have about 3 inches on each side of the MAF to hopefully eliminate the turbulence which messes MAF on the standard SRI with the cone filter directly before the MAF. Think it will work? On the end I will have either an A'PEXi Power Intake cone filter or an AEM Dryflow cone filter. Any preference on either? http://apexi-usa.com/shop/index.php/intake/power-intake.html http://www.aemintakes.com/dryflow_air_filters.htm
ClimberDHexMods
AEM Dry Flow is a very good filter, among the best with regards to particle filtration, or so I have read. Kennyfvholla
I tried something like this not too long ago. I have a 96 GT which already has that intake setup, with a K&N drop in filter. I took out the snorkus and intake box, stuck a 5 inch long silicon tube in front of the MAF and put a an Injen cone filter on it that I borrowed from my buddies car. It did drive nearly as smooth as before. It was too loud for me too and I didn't like that I couldn't actually here the engine of the intake noise. So I went back to my regular setup. The sound is pretty awesome, but it might get annoying. As long as it doesn't cause the turbulence, I am going to test it out.
nick.cfrancis
Anybody see any advantages to going with the A'PEXi filter? It's 2x as expensive as the AEM Dryflow.
lulzcow
Besides the brand recognition IDK. Speaking of intake ideas though...I had a weapon-R intake and cone filter set up. The PO had a generic intake with the stock airbox removed. Now I have the weapon-r hooked up to an airbox I found at a junkyard, with a K&N panel filter. Thinking about using the ram air tubing which came with the Weapon-R, and guiding through where the snorkus would be, and connecting it to the foglight opening I have on the front bumper. Sound plausible?

Sound plausible? It should work fine. For safety you could get a Bypass valve to prevent sucking water. Doubt you will need it though. http://www.aemintakes.com/air_bypass_valve.htm
lulzcow
Thanks! It's like 55 for the valve, but if the setup seems to work really well, it might be worth it.

You could always go eBay cheap: http://www.ebay.com/itm/RED-2-5-63mm-COLD-AIR-INTAKE-BYPASS-VALVE-FILTER-MITSUBISHI-SUBARU-/270877477396?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A1997%7CMake%3ASubaru%7CModel%3ALegacy&vxp=mtr&hash=item3f118e4a14#ht_3162wt_1018 But I have no idea about the quality. Hahaha.

nick.cfrancis
The diameter of the stock intake piping is 3 inches, correct? I am trying to figure out what filter to buy. http://www.aemintakes.com/search/univcone.aspx
