aguyinthesky
Has anybody with a bd gone about mounting a tow hook? Universal? Custom? Post pics of some setups out there
Stang70Fastback
Why? That would be like giving Chuck Norris a Band-Aid.

subikid90
Mine already has one to tow other cars, and it has towed other cars(truck) before and worked just fine. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap

Kennyfvholla
Two weeks ago I pulled an older gentleman's Lincoln out of a ditch that he went into. We used a bunch of towing equipment that his neighbor had. The neighbor had a truck, but he wasn't there so his wife let us use his stuff lol. We bolted largeish u-hooks to the tow mounts on the front of my car and use those to hook the tow straps to it. Idk what brand they were though. They fit perfectly. I've been waiting until I'm in that area again to go ask him. Because I wanted to buy some. But, I'm sure they can be found anywhere fairly easily.. Baddog
Yeah I got stuck in a ditch and had to be towed out. Well winched out actually. They used my front tow hooks. Scared the hell out of me. Thought it was going to be something
Stang70Fastback
I've always used the tow hook that's tucked under the rear bumper, lol, not the best solution: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0Ybyma48ZY]My Outback Tows a Camaro - YouTube[/ame]
Kennyfvholla
The only problem with using the one underneath the rear bumper, is just that. And you see it in the film. You put all the stress on that one side of the car and your car always pivots at that point. It happens if you pull, or get pulled. There really needs to be a second anchor point or a trailer hitch back there.. I've been wanted to do that for a while now.
Stang70Fastback
Yeah. I'm just going to get a trailer hitch eventually. Didn't want to add weight at the back like that, but would be useful for towing/pulling things.
aguyinthesky
yeah that off centering becomes an issue to tow, seeing as how the hooks are meant to b pulled not to pull others haha. Fab a center hook? could b a strange look but then again, get rid of that extra weight a hitch would imply
Kennyfvholla
what would a hitch weight, 30 to 40 lbs at the absolute most?
Stang70Fastback
what would a hitch weight, 30 to 40 lbs at the absolute most? I'm sure it's not terrifically heavy, but remember that it sits pretty far over the rear wheels, so that weight is exaggerated by a larger moment arm. I don't pretend to be counting every lb on my car (what with adding sound deadener and stuff) but it's still a noticeable addition.
Highflyr
I've been planning to get a hitch so I can tow my bike. I like to go to the Smokies for vacation and 12 hours on the bike is a bit rough.
overspool
Do you mean like a "racecar" tow hook? http://www.jhpusa.com/store/pc/catalog/benen/benen.towhook-red_d.jpg
pillboy
Pretty. My wife would like those on her Outback. It is still ugly.

overspool
for the front most people attach it to their bumper beam, which requires cutting a part of the bumper and drilling into the bumper beam. My personal favorite is the one that attaches to teh strut tower, and people cut a hole in their hood for it The rear just bolts up to where the stock tow hook is. That's what that little bracket is.
