Ticking noise??

Ever since winter has hit and my oil was changed to synthetic, I've notice a ticking noise that seems to be coming from behind the drive side firewall. I checked under the hood but couldn't hear it, only when inside the vehicle. I turned off all heater controls and such and still it persists. Does anyone have any idea as to why this is doing this? I was told by a friend that it's the cold causing it.
