iv_05gt
I'm due for a new clutch & flywheel (i have the parts) minus a gasket for the drain plug & trans oil. What am i looking at for labor? and are there any recommendations to have someone do it.
__raj
My mechanic did our clutch for $850 due to throw out bearing failure. It was $450 in labor and $400 parts for everything but flywheel. He cleaned up the flywheel and replaced as he did not feel it was worth it to replace it for $500 or so it costs. I used Scotty's Country Auto in Exeter. The owner is a Subaru specialist and 20yrs+ of Subie experience.
BigTDogg MA
If you're in Rhodie, I'd check out member GTTuner as he's located in RI and from what I've researched his rep is impeccable.

The shop just replaced my clutch last month. Since the car's a 5th gen, labor was a little more than a WRX or 4th gen. He can save you the cost of a new fly wheel by trading for a resurfaced one. Price of the clutch depends on the one you pick.
iv_05gt
I already have the clutch & flywheel (thanks to mike @ infamous performance) was just wondering how much the job is gonna run me so I can plan my budget.
minuccims
Hey , helps if I read the post. Still, give Wicked a call for an estimate. They have done several jobs for me in a very decent amount of time. They won't care if you have the parts and will get you on the road as quick as possible. If I recall correctly (may just be for WRX), the earlier 05s had a different clutch configuration. You VIN may be needed to figure out if your have everything needed and what the labor is. SurlyOldManMN
Not-the-dealer shops around here wanted $450-$500. Dealer wanted almost $800, after a local subaru club discount.

01g_wrx_02
If you have the tools and time you should try it yourself. I did my Wrx on jackstands in a day. If the flywheels not to bad you can reuse it

iv_05gt
I ended up taking on the endeavor myself. Baught a Trans jack from harbor freight and went to town. Plans to have someone do it fell through and i took the day out of work so i used my girlfriends parents garage and went to town. splitting the trans from the block was a flipping nightmare. GTTuner
Good job! I knew you could do it! Yes, a rather large pry bar is needed at times to get the engine and trans separated........it feels midevil sometimes!
iv_05gt
Hah a prybar. I used a hammer and a wood splitter to break it enough to get a pry bar in. I would do some things a bit different not that i've done it once. But all in all it sucked haha.
