Sioux-BRue
1st post, glad to be here... Are all 3rd Gen. non-XT Outbacks fit with the wiring harness for the turn-signal-mirrors found on the XT? Easy retrofit or no? If not, how hard is the conversion? Drift Motion
the regular 2.5i Legacy don't have the wiring compare to the GT IIRC, so I assume it's the same for the OB?
Sioux-BRue
Roger, this is confirmed. I bought some spendy-ass turn signal mirrors off of a Spec-B and tried to mount them on my '08 OB i, but I was a semi-fail. The mirrors themselves will mount onto the doors, but the wiring is different. I will need to run a pos/neg wire from my turn signal out to the mirrors to get the mirrors fully functional (heat and blinkers). I just don't know where to tap in once I get the pos/neg wire to the steering column...
93turbo2
I swapped my NA mirrors for GT ones and I got lucky that they seller was parting out his car and threw in the door harness. The GT door harness will plug into the NA body harness, if you go that route it is straight plug and play. The more difficult option would be to add the 2 wires needed for the signals and running the wiring through the door and to the body harness after staring at the wiring diagrams in the vacation pix. 93turbo2
You should see if he still has the door harnesses if you want to go that route: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/ma-complete-part-out-05-lgt-ltd-5mt-85k-174006.html
Sioux-BRue
Anyone know where I could tap in to the turn signal current for the side mirrors? Should I use a Metra connector of some kind at the mirror?
93turbo2
Use the "vacation pictures" for the diagram. If I remember correctly you can tap it from where the door harness plugs into the kick panels.
Sioux-BRue
What do the GT door harnesses look like and where exactly do they plug in to the dash? Got a pic of the mirror-end connector on the harness?
93turbo2
What do the GT door harnesses look like and where exactly do they plug in to the dash? Got a pic of the mirror-end connector on the harness? The gt harness looks the same as your stock one, the only difference is there are 2 additional wires in it, the car should already be pre-wired for the turn signal mirrors and heat. The plug in on the drivers side kick panel/footwell. It will be a square shaped connector, sorry I didn't take any pictures of the harness and the connectors, if you follow it upwards it should go towards your door. Here are instructions for removing the door panel: http://legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2244893&postcount=9 You'll need to pull the plastic back to get to the harness and release the clips that hold it to the door. Once that is done, you can pull it out towards the front of the door, near the hinge and follow it to the connector on the cabin side. http://legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3546633&postcount=8 There's a walk-through on the swap that I followed: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/diy-legacy-gt-mirror-install-111378.html?t=111378&highlight=door+harness
