lulzcow
Curious if anyone could help me diagnose a problem, and an issue... My problem is an inconsistent misfire, which happens either when I at WOT, or at about 4.5K-5K RPM. This started happening after I installed my Group-N motor and transmission mounts. This problem is very inconsistent. I am occasionally getting a code regarding the catalyic system. Would having bad/clogged cats create a problem such as this? I have been contemplating going to straight/test pipe regardless. Would that create a problem with my stock ECU? The second thing I am having an issue with is the noise emanating from my engine bay whenever I have the clutch pedal pushed in. It's similar to a knocking/ticking noise, and only happens when the pedal is pushed inwards. I have tried adjusting my clutch pedal actuator? in the engine bay, and it seemed to fix the problem for a small amount of time. Any suggestions at what else I might be able to do to fix this noise? Stang70Fastback
I would imagine that a clogged cat would fit your symptoms. It would [obviously] cause the CEL to go off, and at higher RPMs the back-pressure might be enough to really cause a misfire.
lulzcow
Back-pressure is the perfect way to describe what it feels, sounds like! Thanks for the feedback. Now to find a place to replace my cats with straight pipe!
I Donated broknindarkagain Posted November 2, 2011 I Donated Share Posted November 2, 2011 If you have to do emission testing, you will fail without cats....and your check engine light will be on. -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." lulzcow
No emission testing. I already have a constant CEL due to my lack of EGR system.
lulzcow
Any idea on the noise coming from the clutch actuator (I believe that's what it is called)?
I Donated broknindarkagain Posted November 2, 2011 I Donated Share Posted November 2, 2011 the slave cylinder? sounds to me like clutch fork or throw out bearing -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." lulzcow
The clutch fork is what I was adjusting lol. Would the throw out bearing affect the "stickiness" of the clutch? Sometimes when I release the pedal, it takes a moment for the pedal to fully retract.
I Donated broknindarkagain Posted November 2, 2011 I Donated Share Posted November 2, 2011 there is no adjustment for the clutch fork If your pedal is sticking down and not coming up, that sounds to me like a hydraulic issue. possibly a bad slave cylinder or air in the line -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." lulzcow
Hmmm, the line that runs through my clutch fork is adjustable. Upon tightening or loosening the bolt and locking bolt, I was able to adjust my clutch pedal sensitivity, which also adjusted the distance it sticks out vs. the other pedals. I Donated broknindarkagain Posted November 2, 2011 I Donated Share Posted November 2, 2011 Thats not your clutch fork. The clutch fork goes between the slave cylinder and throw out bearing...under the hood on top of the bellhousing - going into the trans You just adjusted your clutch pedal -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." lulzcow
gotcha. that seems to be where the noise originates
bushey45
My wagon and my wifes sedan are cable style clutchs and are adjustable. However my 2000 Forester is hydraulic. Maybe it's just a difference between the phase 1 and phase 2?
I Donated broknindarkagain Posted November 2, 2011 I Donated Share Posted November 2, 2011 Its a difference between pre1995 and 96+ -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." mtcookson
Its a difference between pre1995 and 96+ I read that in the stickies but I have a 97 MY (12/96 build date) 2.2 Brighton and it definitely has a cable clutch. My 97 Impreza L 2.2 is identical.
babybaluga32
Imprezas were still phase 1 then. My 98 impreza was a push clutch. As for the Brighton.. not sure.
