Rear view mirror jiggles

Rear view mirror jiggles around a bit.

The mirror itself is not loose at the ball socket

The black arm that goes up to the roof has a bit of play.

I was thinking I could pop that gray cover off and be able to tighten something up under the cover.

I pried on the cover a bit and nothing seemed to move and so I stopped.

Did not want to destroy that cover.

How do I take the slack out of that black arm?

Thanks

If I remember right the cover piece snaps on. There are a couple of latches - one on each side. You basically want to pull the side away from the holder / toward the door. Once one pops loose the other will be easy. Under the cover there are 3(?) screws connecting the mirror to the roof.

If you are going to this far, do yourself a favor and swap it out to an auto-dimming mirror. Best mod I ever did. Mirror cost me $6 at pick a part.

Ok, fixed the wiggling rear view mirror.

There are 3 screws on the back mounting bracket

The single screw at the rear was really loose.

The secret to getting that gray cover off is to use a small dental pick with a hook on the end.

Pull the sides of the plastic pice out away from the center and the cover pops off easy.

Prying with a screwdriver just damaged the edges of the plastic cover.

Here's some pics in case anyone else has the same question.
