I have run 225/45-17 performance snow tires on 17x8 (not exactly what I wanted), and the overall diameter was a little small as stated above. Also tires were a little narrow for the wheel. I've also run 215/50-17 studless ice and snow tires on 17x7. I like this combo for winter. A little narrower to cut through deep stuff, and a little more sidewall for cushioning bumpy roads/ruts.
