Nub Question

I am replacing my breaks for the first time on my car. Yes, for the first time. I kind of let it go and just saw how bad the breaks where. I see where the weather was not very nice to my shim on the breaks, and by not nice I mean there is not a shim left. I have been looking on the forums and have not seen people putting the shims back on, or I am just missing it. Do you need to have an outer shim? I know mine has been without one for some time.

Thanks.

Depends on what pads you got. I replaced em with Hawk HPS pads which have a shim integrated onto the back of the pad. I believe the integrated shim is made of teflon. My old teflon shims were destroyed.

The stainless steel ones I still kept. So I have the stainless ones, and the integrated teflons ones on the back of the HPS pads, and that's it. Some people use the old teflon shims too, which is sort of like double-shimming if you ask me and not necessary.
