Drive for the cure

Recommended Posts

Did some BMW test driving today.

330i Sport Package - nice seats, nice steering wheel, unimpressive transmission and power. Smooth. Sport package looks nice and really does hold the road well. Bad seating position in relation to the steering wheel.

545i - Engine was great and handling wasnt too bad. Great seats and stereo. Nice suspension over rough roads. Begged for 6 speed. Active steering was a pain, iDrive is horrible. I figured out how iDrive worked and couldnt believe how stupid it is. iDrive is fine for adjusting the plethora of settings but should not be used for changing the radio station!!!!! The styling also did NOTHING for me. The M45 is the way to go.

It sounds stupid but going back to my subaru felt really good. GT feels much more "real." The subaru's steering felt more connected and the power was more fun. I like the rush of power of the turbo.

Really unimpressed today. BMWs use to really outclass the competition. My first car was a 525i and it was light years ahead of the competition in driving dynamics. The japanese have really closed the gap and Cadillac isnt far behind the japanese.

I like iDrive, but I have had lots of practice with it. You don't have to use the iDrive knob to change stations you can do it on the wheel, and the manual is more fun in the 545 and 645.
