compsurge
note: the seafoam isn't an octane booster, just fuel system treatment. Might be good to use if the gas doesn't have any detergents with cleaning powers.

monkonmonk
Alright, so I am adding a LV for the previously mentioned .6875 IAM. Then I noticed that I was less than a 1/4 tank and filled up on some 93 where I have bought it for most of the car's ownership. I took a couple of logs and took another LV. Then lastly I added one more LV after a reset and a bit of relaxed driving. Hope this helps. Monk
bmx045
After your commute to work in the am post a LV. Do some 100% throttle
monkonmonk
Didn't think to check this thread before I left for work. I will get some WOT in at lunch and post a LV after.
bmx045
this may be a longshot but, are any of your suspension parts clunking or knocking over bumps?
monkonmonk
yes, have for a while. Haven't quite been able to track that down yet, but I thought it might be LCA bushings which I have but not replaced yet and possibly strut mounts, which I also have but have also not replaced yet. Where are you going with this?
bmx045
alright, so, here's what to do. go out and make a log, log feedback knock correction, hit some sizeable bumps at part throttle and see if it knocking when going over the bumps. loose suspension components have been known to trip the knock sensor. monkonmonk
The drive in to my work is perfect for that. I will log my trip out of the office at lunch today, as well as some WOT. So, if I am driving and the knock gets triggered, then it could throw me in to limp mode which is what started this whole thing in the first place? bmx045
when you look at the current value next to feedback knock when viewing it in RR, while recording data (don't need to defog button...just watch current value) and watch it for activity when hitting bumps. monkonmonk
gotcha, will do. Thanks again for the help. I will post back around lunch with what I find. Monk
compsurge
Also could be injector/coilpack/spark plug causing a misfire that is interpreted as knock (listen at idle for a slight misfire).
monkonmonk
Also could be injector/coilpack/spark plug causing a misfire that is interpreted as knock (listen at idle for a slight misfire). Shouldn't I be able to log or notice that event through logging?
bmx045
if you log roughness, which you can. scroll down the list, roughness monitor cyl 1,2,3,4 will show counts of misfires as they happen....if there are any....sometimes there's 1 or 2 even on a healthy car... monkonmonk
Alright. So the first thing I did was take a LV from the commute to work. Then, without resetting the ECU, I proceeded to log the recommended parameters driving over every nook and cranny in the road to induce the possible suspension 'knock'. Then, in addition to that I did a couple of WOT pulls, in 2nd gear mind you. Again, due to traffic and speed limits. Lastly, upon returning to work, I took a LV which eveything surprising seems to be at similar levels to when I was originally tuned. the only things that I can gather from this information is the following. Reasons for 'limp mode': 1. Bad gas 2. large pothole, bump, etc. I noticed no misfires at idle. I even tried to log them as suggested. I am hoping that all has returned to 'normal' to some extent, unless someone tells me otherwise. I appreciate all the feedback and assistance. Hopefully, now if this happens in the future I will have a longer list of to-dos to investigate the issue and determine its cause and solution. sjwelna
Agreed, looks like a REALLY bad batch of gas. I wouldn't go back to the gas station you had been using when you were getting the bad logs. Probably had a ton of water in it. In the future you can use Seafoam in the gas tank to help sequester the water. I would still run a can through the tank to help clean out any residual crud that might still be in there. -Steve
