grantLGT
I have an o5 5eat stage 2. I want to invest into a tranny cooler but i dont know if thats such a good idea here in alaska durning the winter. My friend got one on his built 4eat wrx but hasnt had it during winter. will my tranny be too cold in the cold temps here that it will hurt it? Anyone have any thoughts? thanks

bmx045
The 5EAT and it's ATF is designed to operate at temps of the radiator, as the stock "cooler" runs lines through the radiator. It is designed to maintain a constant tranny temp of ~180-200 degrees. Of course the tranny will, at times, be higher than that but from person experience, a tranny cooler negatively effects the operation of the torque converter. ATF that is too cool (I.E. below 180 or so) prevents the torque converter from locking up like it should- so this causes more slippage and less torque multiplication to the wheels.
