tbperry
I am wanting to paint my stockers but I wanted to make sure I have all the steps right. There are a few threads but none of which are really answering all my questions. The steps basically are, clean the rims, wet sand w/ 300 grit sand paper, index cards in between rim and tire, then rattle can. anything else you want to add? I have heard some say primer is needed, and some say not...? Also, looking at Duplicolor HWP102 (Graphite) as the product to use, any other suggestions? I want a metallic gun metal Grey look when finished, and from what I have read it is a pretty tough finish. Any tips you can give me is greatly appreciated, looking to do this on monday... StoplightAssassin
You only have to prime bare metal. Index cards work OK. Be careful of overspray though. I prefer to use painter's tape to protect the tire.
tbperry
I also have a couple scratches on the rim (previous owner) and am curious it i need to use a larger grit sandpaper on that for them or if the 300 should work ok?
StoplightAssassin
depends on how bad they are. if it goes down to bare metal, you can use metallic bondo to fill them in then sand it smooth you will have to prime the bondo tho
