W1CKED
I just picked up a box of this, but have yet to try it. Anyone have any experience with this? "Black Box" Link http://0.tqn.com/d/cars/1/0/v/w/1/bb_boxcont.jpg
OCDetails
Yup. I've used it on black several times and it is really stunning. It makes a bit of a mess though, so be ready for that. Don't wear your good pants or shoes while using this product. They used to include a black microfiber towel in the box. Do they not do that anymore? The big thing on this is to not expect it to remove anything. It is designed to fill scratches and swirls with black pigment so you can't see it. The pre-wax cleaner is just a paint cleaner with lots of fillers. Same story with the wax. Expect the swirls to come back in three to four months unless you stay on top of it. That is what the Spray Detailer is for though. It does an outstanding job of continuing to keep things like small paint chips and scratches filled in and less noticeable. I'm really the last person in the world to endorse any product that hides things, but this really is a pretty stunning product on black. For vehicles that are pretty perfect already, it just takes it to the next level. All I know is that I love the results. I've gotten a good seven coats out of the bottle of pre-cleaner and wax, so for the $20 bucks it costs around here, it is a pretty decent deal. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y42/OCDetails/smoked%20lenses/e0fab97f.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y42/OCDetails/smoked%20lenses/dc939ec3.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y42/OCDetails/99CamaroSS/7f74d875.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y42/OCDetails/99CamaroSS/58b871bd.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y42/OCDetails/DSCN0918.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y42/OCDetails/DSCN0921.jpg _________________________________________ “Cleanliness becomes more important as godliness becomes more unlikely.” O C D E T A I L S . COmtnBiker
Wow! Those results almost seem too good to be true. I may have to try that stuff out! 2012 Xterra Pro-4X 2003 Outback Sedan Limited D.U.S.T.O.F.F. They MAY...that was just a pic I snagged from the inter-webs. Those photos are SPECTACULAR!!! Gah...I can't WAIT to do this to my OBP LGT!! OCDetails
Prep work is everything. I used a cutting polish prior to using the Black Box, so don't think your car will go from 0 to 100 just with a $20 wax. There was also a lot of elbow grease that went into that shine. I'm doing a black Range Rover on Saturday that has a ton of swirls no doubt. Maybe I'll take some before/after pictures on the swirls with no additional prep on a couple sections just to give an idea of what it can do. That would be a good experiment... _________________________________________ “Cleanliness becomes more important as godliness becomes more unlikely.” O C D E T A I L S . OCDetails
*Ugh*...yer in Utah. I feel the same way sometimes... However, when it comes to detailing, I'll take Tahoes and Minivans over 120 degrees in the shade in Dallas any day of the week. The climate doesn't suck here nearly as much as it does elsewhere. It's no San Diego, but it really is nice here when it isn't snowing. So, like three months out of the year. lol _________________________________________ “Cleanliness becomes more important as godliness becomes more unlikely.” O C D E T A I L S . Euclid
Seems like a similar product to Poorboy's Black Hole.
OCDetails
Nope. Black hole is just like the XMT carnuba glaze or something. This is a wax with black pigment fillers. It makes a mess of everything, but works well at filling swirls. It is like waxing your car with copier toner. black hole is just a glaze with a lot of oils to make black shine. _________________________________________ “Cleanliness becomes more important as godliness becomes more unlikely.” O C D E T A I L S . I could swear the label says it contains fillers. Anyways.. black hole definitely looks good on a black car.
OCDetails
It probably does have fillers, but they are the oil type of fillers and not the pigment type. Most glazes and waxes have fillers in them, which is why I favor sealants. What you see is what you get there. I've got some great pictures with Black Hole though. It really is a great looking product on a variety of colors. If you go to my blog and look at the Exterior Detailing link on the left you can see my grey Corolla and dark blue Odyssey with Black Hole. I've got pictures of it on that 997 I detail from time to time as well. It is a great looking glaze, but seriously I think it is on par with Danase Wet Glaze, XMT carnauba glaze, and this other purple product I got from Chemical Guys at SEMA. They all seem to be following the same cue in formula for that product. _________________________________________ “Cleanliness becomes more important as godliness becomes more unlikely.” O C D E T A I L S . OCDetails
Not to be confused with the Black Box, these are Poorboy's Black Hole. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y42/OCDetails/DSCN0810.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y42/OCDetails/DSCN0813.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y42/OCDetails/2.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y42/OCDetails/4-1.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y42/OCDetails/CorollaDetail/DSC07089.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y42/OCDetails/CorollaDetail/DSC07079.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y42/OCDetails/CorollaDetail/finishedvan2.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y42/OCDetails/CorollaDetail/finsihedvan.jpg Anyway, you get the idea. Sorry for the hijack. Just wanted to note that as far as I know, this Turtle Wax Black Box is the only wax off the shelf with black pigment in it which will actually dye your paint a darker black and fill chips and scratches with black thick stuff. It is ONLY to be used on very black vehicles. To use it on any other color would be very bad news. VERY BAD indeed. Not everything that says BLACK on the bottle is going to necessarily fill in swirls. _________________________________________ “Cleanliness becomes more important as godliness becomes more unlikely.” O C D E T A I L S . When clean, it actually looks metallic green and is fairly light as blacks go.
OCDetails
It really works best on total solid jet black. I haven't tried it on a color with metal flake in it yet. I'd imagine it would darken it up a bit, but it should be fine. _________________________________________ “Cleanliness becomes more important as godliness becomes more unlikely.” O C D E T A I L S .
