technicalgarage
Wondering if anyone has any experience with the OEM Clutch alignment tool. I'm sick of the plastic garbage that comes with most kits. If I could find a junked tranny to cut an input shaft off of, I would, but unfortunately I don't have one or know anyone with a dead tranny they're willing to donate. The part number in question is 499747100. I couldn't find any info or pictures anywhere. spx sells it for $70. (http://subaru.spx.com/Detail.aspx?id=157) Online dealers seem to have them for about $20 (damn shipping...). I figure it would be worth the cost if it was metal and not a huge pile of garbage. mwiener2
If you are having a problem with the plastic one, you aren't doing it right. My Mods List (Updated 8/22/17) 2005 Outback FMT Running on Electrons
technicalgarage
I don't have a problem with it necessarily, I just don't like the soft plastic. I also have more than one subaru and friends with subarus too, and I thought it would be nice if I could use a sturdy metal one instead.
mwiener2
I've used the same tool for over 20 clutches. You're using it wrong if it's getting worn out. Also, every clutch kit I've ever gotten came with a new tool. My Mods List (Updated 8/22/17) 2005 Outback FMT Running on Electrons
ehsnils
The few times I have done a clutch I did use my eyesight only since I didn't have a tool. And there was no problem mating the engine with the tranny. Only catch is that it takes some time and patience to get it completely right.
