vicdeng
Hi, i always think my ej22 sounds alil weird than EJ25. If it is because of the HLA, then i don't have to worry about it. Since it has been driven only 1.5 week since the engine swap. It has that tick sound pretty often, usually everyday when i first start the car up. Please give me some advice Thanks [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-63-Ps31Cw]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-63-Ps31Cw[/ame] [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQifA6U-S7o]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQifA6U-S7o[/ame]

ssbtech
Can't tell from the video, but the EJ22 always had a fairly distinctive sound.
vicdeng
can u guys hear that tick sound during the engine was running?
subikid90
I can hear it, might be possible that one or more of the HLA's are bad. I don't know much about the HLA's but I have heard of bad ones causing a loud distinct ticking sound much like you have. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
vicdeng
HLA goes bad? sounds scary. That's weird, this engine only has 30,000 miles on it.
subikid90
Yep it can happen, even at low miles because the engine is still 16 years old. You can try to replace them with used ones from a junk yard or buy new from dealership at ~$25 a pop I think. I dont know how to test them but I know a few people here do and maybe they will chime in. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
