I Donated thefultonhow Posted April 7, 2011 I Donated Share Posted April 7, 2011 You do know we have immobilizer keys, right? Your car won't start with any of these keys. Much easier just to get an 09 all-in-one key.
06LegacyRBP
Yea...but I was thinking to drop that in there
06LegacyRBP
All in one its great too but dealerships charge too much to program all your keys again
06LegacyRBP
I was thinking this might be a cheaper mod?
DocHolladay23
I posted a pic of where the immobilizer is located in the stock key in my original thread, 06LegacyRBP is already aware of that and where it needs to go. Having the dealer reprogram all new keys and fobs is way to expensive IMO, but programming a fob can be done easily yourself and it's not too hard to cut out the immobilizer and stick it in the new flip key. I Donated thefultonhow Posted April 7, 2011 I Donated Share Posted April 7, 2011 So you want to permanently mutilate your stock key, and risk breaking the chip, in order to save the $50 it costs to get the immobilizer programmed on an 09 key? Okay.
06LegacyRBP
Ummm I have 3 keys and 2 remotes....$50 to program and $65 for the key itself, trust me I've done research, idk why your so against it? Maybe u can start a thread and title it "I hate hacked flip keys" idk but I'm just asking for advice to this project, I'm aware they have an all in one key and whatnot, just a DIY kinda guy... BAC5.2
In my experience, aftermarket flip keys are almost entirely crappy. They feel cheap, are super HUGE, and rarely look good. BAC5.2
I was going to make a flip key for my Subaru. If you expect it to have the weight and quality of a VW/Audi key, you'll be very disappointed. DocHolladay23
Permanently mutilate one of the 3 keys I have, yes. I will never need to have all 3 at once, probably never have to have the 2 that I still have either. So you want to permanently mutilate your stock key, and risk breaking the chip, in order to save the $50 it costs to get the immobilizer programmed on an 09 key? Okay. BAC5.2
I had everything lined up and the remote working, but I didn't want to spend the time fixing the flip key bit (cutting the plain key I had cut, and mounting it). The quality of the shell was terrible. BAC5.2
The GEIS ones that Doc used. I was unhappy with fitment and feel. It felt cheap and unrefined to the point where I had considered machining my own, correct, flip key out of a billet of Aluminum. DocHolladay23
Yeah they used to be better built, then they changed the design and went to crap after I made a few for members. Actually a local guy still has one of the ones I made for him and it's held up great, only needed a new spring once or twice, but can't get that shell anymore I bought one of integroids (using a Honda shell and a 3-button 09 LGT key) and the quality is really good, feels solid and not at all fragile.
