scoobydoobie
What is the widest wheel/tire set up people run on Bilsteins/Pinks? Without rubbing either the strut perch or the fender? I currently have 17 x 7.5 wheels with 225/45s and am looking to run a wider wheel and a wider tire. Either 17" or 18" wheels.
BigBlack-V
there are several threads regarding this topic but I will give you my .02 cents. i have 04 STI BBS wheels on my spec.B 225/45/17 tire on 17x7.5 rims and you may be able to get 235/45/17's on that rim you have. I had 18x8 rims on my spec.B lowered on Cobbs and I rubbed using a 245/40/18 with a negative camber and rolled wheel wells. I ended up selling those 18's. I was 0. And I'm still a zero. scoobydoobie
links to the other threads about this? Looked but did not see them. IMO a 235/45/17 is too much tire for a 17x7.5. Do you think the 18 x 8s would have rubbed if you had had 245/35/18's instead? thanks for the feedback.
BigBlack-V
^ I am sorry I can not answer that I was 0. And I'm still a zero.
wpmarky
I had 235/40/18 Toyo's on 18x8 +48 and -1 camber all around, didn't rub while on bilsteins/pinks. 245/35/18 might fit with a fender roll. Depends what offset wheels you get, and depends if your tires run wide or skinny. +35 offset will rub with 245/40/18's. Try to get +
BAC5.2
I'm going to shoot for a 245/50/17 or a 245/45/18 as my next tire on an 8" rim with a +44ish offset. My 225/55/17's fit with plenty of room to spare. In the rear, if I ran less camber, and rolled the fenders, I could easily fit a 245. The front is a little trickier, but I don't think it would be impossible. My fenders are Outback, but I am still on Bilsteins. scoobydoobie
Well if I buy new, I think I found the 18's I would want. They are 18x8 +48mm offset Sparco wheels (http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/results.jsp?filterSize=18&filterFinish=All&filterBrand=Sparco&filterWeight=All&autoMake=Subaru&autoModel=Legacy+Sedan+2.5+GT&autoYear=2005&autoModClar=Base+Model&sort=Brand&filterNew=All&filterSpecial=false). Do you think I'd be better off with 235/40/18 or 245/35/18 or 245/40/18? Pretty sure from reading replies here that a 245/40 would rub. I want a wider contact patch than I have now, and am thinking that going from 225s->235s is not significantly wider, which is why I am pretty much set on 245s. 05gtlimited300
When i had my pinks on stock struts, my Rotas (18x8 P1) rubbed with 235/40/18 but mostly on bumps
BAC5.2
It's a terrible balancing act between tire choice, wheel width, and wheel offset. I think an 18x8 to 18x8.5 with a +45 (for the 8") to +40 (for the 8.5) offset will probably put you in a good place to fit something like a 245. You might need to do some fender magic, but you live close enough to some great fender rolling shops, that it isn't really an issue. scoobydoobie
Thinking now about a 17 x 8.5 and running 245/40s. Thanks for the feedback from everyone.
BAC5.2
That should fit pretty well. You could even fit that size tire on a 17x8. 05+ STi guys often go for that size on the stock wheels. scoobydoobie
Another wheel choice...18x8.5 +48. With 245/35/18 fit w/Bilsteins/Pinks?
BAC5.2
Probably not. SublimeJoe was able to fit an 18x8.5 +39 with a 245/45/18 with only a little room to spare on stock struts. I think you'll hit with +48. You will definitely need to do some fender magic to clear the tires. scoobydoobie
Ok thanks. I don't mind some fender work if need be. Strut side is more of a concern as I don't want to change suspension. You know how nice the HD/Pink combo is SublimeJoe's 245/45/18 is still a good bit larger than my planned 245/35/18 though no? BAC5.2
Taller. But his wheels are 9mm further away from the strut than your proposed setup. scoobydoobie
Taller. But his wheels are 9mm further away from the strut than your proposed setup. Gotcha. Wasn't sure how tires being taller or not would effect clearance. So in that case I might look into even a 245/40 for some added protection for the wheels. But I don't know, that might really be pushing it.
suds2250
I run 245/35/18's on Rota 18x8 +48 offset. JDM bilstiens and Prova springs, no rubbing at all. 335HP/360Tq VF-22/1820 clone with Meth

mattg
IMO a 235/45/17 is too much tire for a 17x7.5. That's what I run and they fit perfectly.
