Corny357
Finally got the dealership to remove the entire dash. Some things were re-adjusted and re-covered I guess, and it worked. Squeak free. Only thing I'm slightly concerned with is that when I picked it up, the engine sound in the cabin was slightly different. Almost a bit louder...can't really describe it. Is there any sound deadening material behind the dash there that could have been moved or something that was not re-sealed properly that would affect the sound? I picked up a friend in the car this morning and he immediately noticed the new sound, too. I can hear much more of the turbo “whoosh” and more of just the engine sound in general. Any help/insight would be much appreciated.
Phila
Honestly, I would take extra engine noise over EVERYTHING inside the car rattling. I'd say you got a good trade-off.
Corny357
I know, but it's just different, and therefore slightly disconcerting. I'd at least like to know what it is/what it could be.
Corny357
Also, as I said in the OP, I hear significantly more turbo noise in boost...
burnout8488
Go under the hood and see if the fat rubber grommets on the firewall are properly sealing. (For wire harnesses that go behind the dash) Maybe there's an open hole from the engine bay into the cabin?
Corny357
Popped the hood and looked for the seals. I could only see three, and two of them were towards the middle. The sound is distinctly from the far driver's side...
ShrinerMonkey
You are probably just not used to hearing the engine over all of the squeaks and rattles, not hearing them, you now tune into the enine sounds.
Corny357
That's not it.
E-Tank
The different sound you're hearing is likely a new vibration/resonation that's caused by the new way that everything fits together.
