adama
hey all sorry if this is in the wrong spot im new here. so i have a 96 Subaru legacy it will start cold and run fine but when i turn it off it loses spark and i have to let it set for a few hours. i put in new spark plugs and wires, but the problem persists, read the obd2 and only found a code for o2 censors. tried to test the coil but i am getting weird numbers not even close to book specs, went to the junk yard and got the same reading, so i think im just doing it wrong idk. any ideas what would cause this assuming its not the coil? and should i even be assuming that? i would greatly appreciate your expertise. GTTuner
See if you get a pulse from the negative side of the coil when it won't start, use a common 12v test light.
adama
so i used a light and there are three wires running into the coil, when i turned the key on all three of them got power, and the car is starting, i will retest when the car does not start, is this normal though? GTTuner
Possibly a bad igniter.

subikid90
Possibly the wiring harness before the igniter is bad or worn? -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
GTTuner
You need a wiring schematic, you are loosing a power feed from somewhere.
