ashleymccauley
I have a '95 Subaru Legacy. The other day the car died after all the dash controls went crazy. I put a new battery in and it solved the problem for about two weeks and the car was running great. I was driving home on Tuesday and the controls started going crazy like the speedometer. The car was making a squealing noise that got worse when I hit the gas. Now the car will not do anything at all. Is it possible the belt needs replaced or is it the alternator itself? Any ideas would be really appreciated, because I'm honestly clueless. Thank you for your time. ~Ashley:) P.S. I'm not sure if I posted this in the right place but I'm new to all this so please forgive me.
whitetiger
could be a messed up alternator. jump start the car, and when have the car running(after removing the jumper cables) do a voltage check across the battery terminals. if its not in the mid 13s to low 14s, then your alternator is shot.
